| Sep 26 Written by:aajoanne Friday, September 26, 2008 Thanks to member Labdp for her contributions to our blog! Maddie does not like the sound of fire truck sirens. She is always the first to break into song when they are near by. She'll sit up, throw her head back and howl for all she's worth. It's pretty amusing.
This morning I watched as she began to sing. Next Mickey raced over, threw back his head and joined in. In the next instant Sidney ran up stairs, looked at Maddie, looked at Mickey and he too decided to sing. It was a howling chorus. Something you normally only see animated in a Disney movie.
If they ever change the sound of a siren on a fire truck the sounds of dogs howling up a storm would be a good alternative. I was torn between letting them sing another chorus or stopping the madness. Oh, for my phone, or a video camera, to catch this hot new group crooning together.
They were pretty cute, and incredibly loud. Only Kobe refused to join in song. Come to think of it I have never heard Kobe sing. Perhaps the Prince is too dignified and that's why he sent Sidney in to sing for him.

Re: A Howling Chorus
My guys seldom sing together. Thor is my singer and it makes me laugh every time. But it's especially fun when they have a duet.

Re: A Howling Chorus
oh my gosh my dog does the same thing but he only does it with one siren sound. I think he only does it when a fire truck goes by but i can't be sure if i don't see it. Or could be police sirens. Sometimes he doesn't do it but its really cool to watch and hear. Cause thats the only time he howls. He never barks.

Re: A Howling Chorus
My rottweiler used to do that too, but in her case it was because the sirens hurt her ears. I could tell because or her eyes and by the way she would start to whimper before and after the sirens.

Re: A Howling Chorus
My lab/pitt mix got the little yorkie to start howling. It's hilarious because his voice starts to crack and squeak. They'll start at it way before I hear anything. My neighbor came up to me one day and said that her little scottish terrier was now trying to howl because of my dogs and they found it amusing. Their howling never gets old to me. It always brings a smile to my face.

Re: A Howling Chorus
It wasn't as cute about 2:30am when they were doing a round of howls. But I laugh to think they may be "teaching" the neighbors dogs to sing.

Re: A Howling Chorus
It's the best kind of dog-song! I always intended to record our Lab singing back at every fire truck, ambulance, and police car in pursuit, that he could! The voice was 100% off key and I loved it...wish I could hear it again.

Re: A Howling Chorus
About 5 of our 8 dogs howl and I love it. And THEY love it when we join in!

Re: A Howling Chorus
Oh, does this bring back memories. All the time I was growing up, no matter what neighborhood we lived in, we always lived right near the fire station. Back in those days stations were allowed to sound the siren even in the middle of the night when the trucks were coming out of the station to go to a fire. I can remember many middle of the night choruses!!

My neighbor's dog does that when ambulances & fire trucks drive by - I love it. His little howl cracks me up.

Re: A Howling Chorus
All five of my dogs "sing" whenever they hear any type of siren. They all run to the back yard and begin howling long before I hear anything. I'm thankful I'm in the only house that is occupied in a row of 6 houses. Otherwise, I imagine the police sirens would be visiting us!

Re: A Howling Chorus
Our little white Schnauzer howls at every siren, also. And it isn't long before our other 5 dogs (2 Cockers, 2 Corgis, and a Pit Bull) join in!! My husband and I can get them going by starting to howl ourselves. It's not long before the Canine Chorus is in full voice!! We love it!!!
