Sunday Kissy has me awake at this awful hour. She looks so pathetic. She gets another blood test Tuesday. She is not perky at all. I was hoping the 2 additional meds would perk her up some. She has a little while during the day that she seems better but not tonight. Last blood test show her blood count had gone down lower. That was taken on Friday the 5th. Would you go ahead with the blood transfusion if it meant you could keep your dog another year or maybe 2 but that she may come down with other problems? Monday A blood transfusion would help make her stronger and the anemia should go away for a year or 2 the way I understand it. Now they do not think she is bleeding internally, but could be a genetic thing as far as the anemia goes. I just wonder if she has the transfusion if she could withstand the surgery on her knee or would we have to forget the surgery. If we just stay with the prednisone she will eventually die on her own with us. I have cried over her all morning. So we have three choices the way I see it. 1. Get the blood transfusion to keep her with us a while longer. 2. Just keep her on the prednisone and let her go naturally at home -no telling how long that would take or if she is in pain..Vet said with her meds she is not in pain. 3. Have her euthanized. Here is the downside of the first 2. We have to force feed her twice a day and can't get her to eat more often. She hates being force fed. However she does eat English muffins pieces with peanut butter on them all by herself. She used to eat by herself 4 times a day. Maybe I should make her last days letting her eat what she likes instead of what she needs. This is just my mind wandering. She just wants to lay in my bed all day. She only will walk gently or try to run on all fours on my bed but not on the floor. she holds the sore leg up. She has to wear diapers at night as she drinks a lot from the meds she is taking and can't always hold it all night. Otherwise, We carry her outside to do her business all the time. Even after all this, I can't decide what to do. I hold her and she hugs me. My husband said to wait until we see what her blood test tomorrow shows. And now our part lab is having problems with his right hind leg (same leg as Kissy's) and he goes to the vet today. His sister died of cancer. I have a feeling Dutch has hip dysplasia. will see after his appt. I pray God will tell me what I should do. Marian --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
