I LOVE MY BOXER, Gretchen!!! I have always been a fan of the boxer breed. About a year ago I was at work and I looked up and there she was. A beautiful face looking at me through a window. She looked so lost and a little skinny. I went outside to meet her and she was friendly, just hungary. I took out ads in the paper and posted lost signs up at the local vet offices but no one claimed her. So I kept her. She is like a gift from God. I have a Great Perenysse and 2 cats. She fit right into our family and fell in love with my Perenysse. They are inseperatable! I took her to my vet and he said she was around 3 years old and had several false pregnancies. This alarmed me so I had her spayed and it was a good thing since the vet said she had horrible scar tissue inside her womb. She is such a loving dog and is also very sensitive!!! She is a bit jelous of my other animals, but not in a mean way. She will whine until she gets her way, which is all the time. Animals are meant to be spoiled.....aren't they?!?

Did you get your 5th boxer yet?  Do you get them from rescue?  Are they all male?  I have 2 males ( almost 9 ys. and 11 1/2 yrs) and my daughter has 2 males ( 3 yrs) from the same litter There are times that her two get a little rambunctious with my 8 1/2 yr old.  It appears that my 11 1/2 is the alpha but now that he is starting to slow down a little I'm concerned he might be challenged by her  two.  My 8 1/2 will somewhat get out of the way of hers when they come over and will go under a table or a desk.  They have challenged him over his toys.  How do yours get along?  I've had 2 boxers from the same litter before and when they are from the same litter they feed off each other's energy and are some times harder to control around other dogs.  With people there never was a problem with any of mine or with my daughters.  Her 11 month old crawls all over all of the dogs and climbs on them and they just love her. I agree...they are very comical and make us laugh all the time!  They have LOTS of love to give!!!

We rescued our boxer puppy from a shelter in Arkansas, We found her online on 1-800 Save a Pet. She was only 9 weeks old. People saw kids tossing her and her sister in the air down in Arkansas. We saw her online and felll in love instantly. She flew from Arkansas to NJ. When we picked her up she was so tiny and skinny. Definitely needed some meat on her. She is now 9 months old and about 45 pounds. She is full of energy and just a fun, lovable, ENERGETIC, smart and crazy dog. She loves to snuggle with my husband and I and she loves people and playing with other dogs. Thank god for dog parks - that releases some of her energy :)

How wonderful that she has a safe and loving home now. All my boxers have been from breeders but any future boxers I get will be from rescue. I am so happy for you, they are a great breed and wonderful with children - the best! Do you know what happened to his sister? Hopefully she found a loving home also.

I don't own Boxers, but one of my closest friends does....she has 2 Boxers, a male and a female, they are both rescues.....OMG, the female is around 2 years old and can "clear" a 6 foot stockade fence with no problem!!! It is so bizarre to see a dog in mid-air coming over a tall fence...

I dont mean to intrude but I also have a question and comments as well. My ex sister in law had a aboxer he was well trained obediant loving loayl the whole 9. I have wanted a boxer for many years and am moving so will be puppy or dog shopping this summer. My concern is and I know this is rare and also that it is how a puppy is raised and not the breed I am a firm beleiver of that anyhow my neice was laying on the couch watching tv and suddenly out of nowhere he jumped on the couch and bit her in her face causing 18 stitches this scared me to death as i have 2 children ages 12 and 11 and i definately dont want to take any nessicary risks of them getting bitten they do however know how to treat animals i am and always will be a huge animal lover she knew the previous owners and said they had been good to him but does anyone here think as i do that maybe he wasnt treated as well as she thinks he was? this is very uncharacteristic of boxers and i want one really bad. any genuine thoughts and opinions are welcomed .

Wow, that is very unusual.  I do believe it's the way any dog is raised.  Where do I start...I've had boxers since I was a child and am on my 6th and 7th.  Over 50 years of owning boxers and over 20 years of having 2 at the same time.  I've never had any of them bite anyone.  When I had my first child I remember the last night in the hospital worrying about bringing her home and how my dog, who was very protective of me.  He would bark (never bite or become aggressive) at my husband when he would hug me.  I remembered reading horror stories about how some dogs would attack a baby because of jealousy.  Shawnee was just the opposite, if a friend of mine would pick up my baby he would bark at them, protecting her.  Never would he snap, just wanted to protect her.  When she started crawling, she would crawl over and on him, grab his paws, ears, nose and he would take so much and then just walk away.  Now my daughter has a 11 month old baby and she also has 2 boxers from the same litter that are over 3 yrs. old.  Mine are 11 1/2 and 9 yrs.  My granddaughter does the same to my guys and my daughters guys that she did to Shawnee.  These dogs are so tolerant of children and love all children that it's unbelieveable.  When my other daughter was around 2 she used to slide off the couch and onto my dog.  My poor dog, it had to hurt him, I would get upset with her but she thought it was a game.My brother and sister-n-law had 2 boxers (now only 1, one passed) and had 2 small childred (now 13 and 15) and they were great with them.  I can't say enough positive things about them.  They are the most loving and sensitive and loyal dogs there are and real people dogs.  They have all been my babies and I love them to death.  Please email me with any other comments or questions you may have.  I highly recommend this breed.  You'll fall madly in love with them.  I have!

My fiance and I have a boxer puppy, Eva, who is 10 months old. She is the love of our lives and is such a character! I used to have a golden retriever who was put to sleep after he suffered kidney failure (he was 13 and my first dog) and I just couldn't get another golden, because I knew it would never compare. We found Eva at a boxer breeder in NC and just fell in love with her face. We are looking to get another boxer (a rescue) soon, probably once Eva turns a year old, because we want her to have a playmate and there is a great boxer rescue group in our hometown, Wilmington (NC). We have heard that if you have a female boxer, you should get a male and vice-versa. Is this true? Does anyone have experiences they would be willing to share? Thank you! Boxers Rule! :)

I never had boxers but I found that with my own dogs, it always worked best if one was male and the other female. I know it can work with same sex also because I have friends that have more than 2 dogs. I just found it to be easier for me to have 2 of opposite sex....no competition to deal with.

I have a 2 1/2 yr. old male boxer. He has no signs of aggression what so ever. I have 2 grandchildren and have not a worry that he would ever bite them.  Just tonight my neighbors came over with their dog and was taking her for a walk and want to know if Storm could go with them. They returned with him a half hour later and said he was so good. I can't imagine that Storm would ever hurt anyone, unless they would be a threat to me. He has never been put in that position so I'm not sure what he would do. Probably lick them to death.

Cisco is a handsome boy, kind of reminds me of one of mine.  Is he your first boxer?  They are a wonderful breed, loving, affectionate, funny and so loyal.  They are also great with kids of all ages.  I've always been able to walk my guys, always had males, and they just loved any child that would come up to them. There were times I had to protect the children from getting a bath of kisses!
