I adopted Hunter about 7 months ago. He is about 3 years old now. He really is a damn funny cat for example he loves flushing the toilet (so I keep the door closed, I taught him a couple of times how to shut off the bedroom light and if I am on the computer too late, he will go over and shut the light off and he goes back to bed. If he wants to play he will carry his feather to you. If he wants to be picked up when I get home he meets me at the door and he will reach up as far as he can until I pick him up. He loves crying from another room until I come into the room then he jumps out from in back of the door to scare me.

The problem I have is that, he loves pushing things off the nightstand, table or desk. It does not matter how heavy the item he is, he is like a bull and pushs it off with his head. He doesn't care if its glass, books, priceless or worthless.

He prefers to do this when I am sleeping or early in the morning 4:00Am to 7:00 Am. If i squirt him with water he runs across the room zig zig not to get hit and then opens his mouth so you can squirt it in his mouth, if I stop he starts bitting the nozzle. I tried spanking him and he purrs, I have place him in a room for time out and he either gets out of the room like an esape artist or howls until I let him out. I have had to take everything off the doulbe sinks because he will push anything on to the floor. Then I started covering the counter (double sinks with towels) because there is no door to the double sinks.) I love him more then anything, so I am hoping someone will have some good advice.

Try putting a couple of "scat mats" on the counter or night stand. Kitty will stop shoving things off real quick

Someone once put plastic runners on a couch, with the nubby side up to keep a dog off & it worked.  Wonder it that would work for cats too?  The idea is they don't the nubbies on the mat don't feel well on their pads, but it doesn't hurt them.

Spank a cat???  Never!!  Lose the spray bottle. Be calm, gentle, firm, verbal and consistent. Never lose your temper with a child or an animal.. Be the adult.

Ask your vet or a trainer for help.

Good luck.

What are scat mats? Sounds like something I'd like to use to keep my cat off the dinning room table.
