My Sadie hates other dogs, she does fight but makes this strange growling kinda noise. Now if she get s in a fighting stance I will litely smack her nose, back ,tail and she will turn on me. Now this is a dog that loves me with her life but it's like she has no clue who I am? What can I do, this is a perfect dog other than this.

Now why I have you she is about 5 yrs. old and will not play with any toys, I have tried them all, she acts like she wants to then backs off I think she has been hit with them as a puppy. Is there someway i can her to play with anything? I have even tried the ones you put food in and nothing.

Thank you

STOP HITTING THE DOG. the dog is redirecting the aggression. you cant make your dog like other dogs, best thing is to obedience train the dog and manage situations. please dont kid yourself about "love". dogs react. they will do anything that they feel threatens their survival. strilking a dog doesnt teach the dog anything, so why bother.
without seeing the dog, i cant tell the basic charactor or temperament of the dog. is she fearful?

DPFrank is absolutely right ,STOP HITTING YOUR DOG!  Take him to a trainer or obedience class or even get excellent dog behavior books or go to somewhere on the internet that deals with your problem, but DON'T HIT ,TAP,FLICK even raise your hand in anger, your dog will feel the aggression you're having towards him.  Its the same with a child-you hit, they learn to hit.  Sometimes it's really hard not to feel anger or fear when your dogs  behavior is not so attractive or inviting,  and those feelings are natural and ok,  but be careful not to act on those feelings .{easy for everyone else to say} My theory, and this is just my own theory, is to give as much positive feedback to my dogs as I possibly can, depending of course on their behavior, but just mush and mush and mush over their positive behavior , whether it's hugs or kisses or a quick fun toy game, anything loving.  I feel that you'll get much further with the loving acts then with most anything negative.  It's not a black or white issue, there's alot of grey area's when training a dog.  Don't be so hard on yourself, just take baby steps, and you'll surprise yourself.

I absolutely agree about not hitting your dog (or any animal!) and also agree with everything lostthenfound said, especially the suggestion of positive reinforcement and baby steps. Obviously I'm not familiar with Sadie or her background but it sounds like she hasn't had much socializing. As far as playing with toys, have you tried to get on the floor and play with the toys yourself while she is watching? Sounds silly but some dogs have not had the opportunity to learn what to do with a toy, you're her teacher :) Might take some time but maybe eventually she'll figure out how fun it is :)

About the growling and aggressiveness, again baby steps...I'm not a dog trainer like DPFrank so maybe he can add to this if he wants...maybe take Sadie somewhere that there are dogs but don't let her get close enough to interact with them, just let her watch them for awhile, give her lots of praise when she doesn't react to them and ignore her when she does react, do this on a regular basis in short time frames that you gradually increase as well as gradually getting closer to the other dogs.

Good luck!
