I am wanting to adopt another one or two pets and have been looking at blue heelers (Australian Cattle dog). Anyone have any info on them such as temperment, trainability, etc.

I've had a blue heeler mix. And my son has had two cattle dog mixes. They are very intelligent but can be stubborn. They need a firm hand when training. They all were very energetic dogs. They need to be kept busy or become bored easily and then they misbehave. The one dog my son has now needs at least two long walks a day to burn off steam. Plus she has a habit of trying to "herd" the grandkids. Likes to take their hands in her mouth and lead them where she thinks they should go. It's kind of cute but not all the kids like it. The old one I had didn't try to herd my kids but didn't like them fighting or wrestling. When they would start to wrestle, she would come along and gently nip one of them on the butt (usually the oldest). She would keep at it til they stopped. They're beautiful looking dogs, very loyal to their family and love kids. But they do need a lot of exercise.

I have had my Blue Heeler since November he will be a year in August. I bought him from a breeder/Vet that lives in Williston. If you would like I can send you her email and phone number and you can check to see if she has any new litters. My ACD is a very good dog but hippiemoon is correct they are very stubborn, and he does try to herd the kids around. ACD's are extremely smart but they can be very trying you have to be sturn with them. I also found that he is aggressive towards other dogs, but we are working on that. He is a very good watch dog, and protective when it comes to the family. They do need alot of exercise, and long walks. But all around ACD's are TOPS.Just make sure you do your homework on any dog you plan on getting. Good luck to you.
