Yesterday AM my brother & I went to my Vets here, the had Tango ready for the transport to the mainland. We went to the orthopedic specialist on the cape, he looked at the xrays that my Vet has sent along with us. The specialist said he could certainly put the pins into the ball to hold it in the socket.....but he said even that surgery would work, because the specialist said Tango has hip displaysia (which nobody knew until yesterday) he said Tango has be in Angel Memorial Hospital or Tufts, because he needs to have a complete hip replacement. Arrangements were immediately made, and we transported Tango to Tufts University Veterinary Hospital. Tango was admitted into ICU, as he has not eaten since Monday because of the stress of all of this, so they are giving him IV's, getting him comfortable....Tango will have the surgery sometime between Monday & Wednesday next week...the reason it is taking this long is because there are only 2-3 specialists at Tufts that perform this, and this type of surgery is not usually an emergency, so people book appointments weeks ahead for the dog, but they will get Tango done asap early next week. So my baby is now in Tufts University, he is not in ICU because he is in critical condition, he was put there because they have a complete staff of vets, interns, techs in that ward 24/7, and because Tufts is a teaching vet hospital, there asign a vet student to each dog 1 on 1 around the clock. Tango will never be alone and have the very best care around the clock. My heart is so sad right now for Tango, but I also know he is now in one of the best facilities in the country, with some of the best specialists in the world. They told me it is best, that I do not come back to visit Tango, until its time to pick him up...they said it puts to much stress on the dog when people visit their dog, and then leave, the dogs gets to upset. I trust Tufts completely. A Vet will call me once a day and give me a complete update on Tango. Once they had Tango all situated, I went back to see him before we left, Tango was free to lay on the floor by the ICU desk, there were 5-7 ICU staff loving him to peices. Throughout all this Tango is still as happy as can be expected, and was licking everybodies faces...he is drinking plenty of water, he is just not eating right now..... as the next few days approach, I will keep you all posted...pray hard for my baby Tango, this is going to be a really big surgery and recovery for him.....I love you guys for being my support right now, you have no idea how much I need it

| So sorry to hear all of this you & Tango are going through Newfs, but he's where he can get the best possible care. I know how you feel about wanting to visit, but told not to. I've heard the same thing from other people I know, and it make sense to not stress poor Tango any more than he already is. Being the good boy (and good therapy) dog that he is, I'm sure he'll just lap up all of the attention the staff is giving to him, I just hope he's not in any major pain right now. Kind of glad too, that they are postponing surgery for a few day, just to get the anethesia out of his system from his 2 xrays he's had so far. On a lighter note, you'll have to post a pic of Tango when he comes home. You might need to buy him a sweater, depending on how much they shave him Hugs from Ped, Molly & Zorro | | | |

| ps....... I want to thank the members that live in MA, that have offered to meet me on the mainland to come see Tango (and me)..Prince & UBS_Mom.... how people reach out to others from this site is amazing beyond words. How you would drop everything to just be with someone with a hurting pet. When I posted my 1st topic on the boards UBS_Mom made instant contact with me. UBS (Katie) lives the closest to me. I told her where Tango was going to be taken on the Cape yesterday and what time we would be arriving there. Katie dropped everything she was doing and met us there Katie stayed with me & Tango the entire time, until the specialist there said Tango needs to me moved to Tufts....... Katie was my rock, yesterday. She saw me at my emotional worst. Katie sat on the floor with Tango the entire time, and was covered in drool and fur, while I talked with the specialist there.... Katie, thank you so much for being there for me. I know Tango can sense when I am so upset, and you keep him distracted the entire time, with lots of hugs.....thank you so very much_____Laurene

| Newfs....I know this is so difficult for you. It sounds like Tango is in the best possible hands right now -- with talented professionals who can give him the care he needs.
I'll be praying that he makes it through surgery with flying floppy ears and fur and is home with you and Molly soon.

| I have received 2 calls from the in house Vets at Tufts.... The first call was to tell me he rested comfortably thru the night. The second call was late yesterday afternoon, the Vet said they are giving Tango a little morphine to keep him comfortable, but Tango is still not eating. The Vet said because he is now on morphine he will probally has even a less desire to eat.... the Vet aslo asked me if I would like them to put Tango under anesthesia and "Pop" the ball back into its socket, so he will be more comfortable until the surgery....I told the Vet I didn't think I wanted to do that to Tango--> my Vet here had already knocked Tango out twice in 2 days, to "pop" the ball back in, and the ball keeps popping right back out, and I didnt feel it was nessacarry at this point as long as he is resting quietly, and being monitored and on pain management meds. I just felt he had already been put under twice this week, and is going to be under again in a couple of days for surgery...I just can't justify popping it back in place for a very short time.... Poor Molly is lost at home without her buddy here....she isn't eating very much, and just kinda laying around the house. She is constamtly looking around the house for Tango, she looks in spaces that are so small even a cat coudn't fit in. I have noticed she has become very "clingy" to me, and that is so not Molly. She is sad without her buddy here, but she will be fine. The call I get today from the vet at Tufts will be the call that will be explaining what is about to happen , recovery, and what I should expect from the hip replacement.... I can't explain it, but it is helping me by typing this all out here, kinda releasing all this sad, scared emotions I have going on inside me right now.... | | | |

| Aw Newfs, I feel so sorry for you & Molly. Hard on you, but at least you know where he is and what's going on. Poor Molly is just lost looking for her buddy. My opinion is you made the right call about not putting him under again, until the actual surgery. Poor guy must be miserable. Hugs to you & Molly and light pets for Tango (don't want to hurt him by hugging right now) | | | |

| Newfs...I'm glad that providing updates is helping you. We care about you and Tango and want to hear about how he and you are doing. We're all so worried about you, Tango and Molly. Wish I was there to give you a hug.
I completely understand not wanting to put Tango under again to pop the ball back in place if the likelihood is that it would pop out again before surgery. I'm hoping the pain management they are doing will help him conserve strength for the surgery and recovery.

| newfs, I think you made the right decision not putting tango under.. if he appears comfortable and is on pain meds I don't think a few days with his hip out of whack will make that much of a difference whereas multiple doses of anesthesia are not good for anyone | | | |
