Last night when I called Tango & Molly to come in  the house from the back yard, Molly came running, but Tango was laying on the ground and didnt get up... when I went over to him, I realized he was hurt. I helped him up, but he cried when he was trying to put his rear leg down__:>( I managed to hold him up by his waist, and walk him one step at a time back in the house, he cried with every step. I had the emergency Vet oncall come to my house last night. The Vet checked his leg, said there were no broken bones, but Tango may have sprained something, or possible hurt his hip. Both dogs were fine when I let them out last night, and somehow Tango got hurt. The only thing I can think of, was they were running and Tango may have stopped short and Molly may have run into him, or he just was running and turned the wrong way..... This morning I had the animal control officer and a local cop help us get Tango in the back of the animal control truck and we brought him to my regular Vet. Tango was put under local anesthehsia and had his leg and hip xrayed. My Vet found that Tangos ball part of his hip was out of its socket by 4 inches....while Tango was sedated the Vet was able to "pop" the ball back into the socket. But because of Tangos weight (175 pounds) it could easily pop back out.....the Vet thinks it will be best to keep Tango there for a day or two, keep him comfortable and slightly sedated, to give his hip a chance to heal....if the ball does pop back out, Tango will have to go to the mainland to a orthopedic surgeon to have major hip surgery...... I am so crushed with my baby in pain like this. I don't even know how it happen, he was fine one minute and the next, he is hurt!! Please say a little prayer for Tango, that by the Vet popping the ball back into the socket will hold and hopefully heal on its own. Tango is such a big dog, the Vet doesnt even have a crate big enough for him to be in, so they have in a spare room laying on a quilt on the floor.....I told them he would be fine in the spare room, he doesn not get into mischief. So for the next couple of days, that might be his residence

I will keep everybody posted as things progress .........sorry I have a smile on the subject line, its was meant to be a sad face, and I dont know how to change it_____:>(

My Vets office justed called, they have decided to keep Tango there at least for the next couple of days. They feel because of his size, they want to monitor inflamation and keep him somewhat sedated, so he doesn't move around to much. Plus knowing that if I bring him home he will have to go up & down stairs, and worring about Molly trampling over him. As much as I would rather have him home, it is best that he stays there for now. I am on my way to go see Tango and bring him his favorite pillow......omg, our pets are so much our babies, I am so heart broken and sick over this....

Newfs,

I am so sorry to hear about Tango and his hip!  You are so right how our pets are so much are babies.  ANy time any of our friends here that are members post something about their animal, it scares me and makes me worry!  But, the good thing is , we are all here for each other and help support each other.  I believe it is also nice to have others around to talk to when needed.

Please know that we are all here for you and are keeping you and both Tango and Molly in our thoughts and prayers.  I am sure he misses being home with you and Molly alot!

Newfs,

My kids and I send our love to you, Tango, and Molly.  I know you need lots of support through this time, and just know you can count on us!

Don't beat yourself up about the how's of the whole ordeal....it happened and there was probably nothing you could have done to stop it.   Tango's just very lucky he's got a great Mom who loves him dearly and is going to all ends of the Earth to help him.

He'll be home soon, and when he is, will you please give him a hug from me?

Hugs!

Tam

So sorry to hear about Tango's accident = (. Try thinking happy thoughts.... he was probably having a great time playing with Molly when he got hurt & he's probably enjoying all the kisses and attention from the veterinary staff (even though he misses being home with his mommy).

You all are in my prayers & I hope he's home and playing again before too long.

Thanks for the prayers and well wishes for Tango, I really appreciate it. I just got back from the Vets, I spent an 1 1/2 laying down on the floor with Tango, he is sedated, but looks so sad My vet showed me the xrays and said the force that Tango got in is hip was equilvelent to a dog being hit by a car! We know that did not happen, as my back yard is completely contained. I do know they were running around in the back yard at the time, I was on my puter and could see and hear them out the window. Tango must have stopped short and Molly plowed into him.  My Vet said it was like when a football player isn't looking and gets rammed by a quarterback. Poor Molly hasn't eaten all day, she keeps looking for Tango. The Vet said there is a 50/50 chance Tango might heal on his own with a lot of rest and supervision for the next 6-8 weeks. If his hip doesn't look better in the next set of xrays in a couple of weeks, he will go to the mainland to have a orthopedic surgeon put some pins in his hip to keep the ball from coming back out. The Vet did say that other than this happening, Tango does have really good hips and knees on the xray........thanks for being here for me to have a shoulder to cry on. You guys are the best.

Poor Tango!!   I hate that your big baby is hurting Newfs.

Poor Molly!!  Missing her BIG brother.

He'll be OK one way or the other.  We know you love your furkids and will do all that needs to be done for him.

I had a dog when I was younger and the hip ball popped out also.  She got her leg tangled in a jump rope and went running.  Granted she was a small dog (wire hair terrier).  The vet splinted the leg and after about 6 weeks, she was as good as new.

Happy thoughts & powerful prayers to Tango, Molly & (((Newfs)))!

OMG Newfs!!!!!!!  I'm heartsick for you!

Your poor baby man!!!  And poor Molly & you!  All my energy, love & prayers heading your way! and you know I know how you're feeling... ...and... and more

when Unc was in the hospital, Blu wouldn't eat, play, and didn't even want to go outside.....Molly just wants her brother back... hopefully, quiet time will heal him without having to do the surgery...but if you need to come this way, you're always welcome to stay here!

Let me know if you need anything.

Oh Newfs, I am so sorry to hear about Tango's injury. You and yours are in my thoughts.
He will heal quickly with all the wonderful thoughs going out to him from your friends here.
And chin up... I had a cat that had her leg crushed once, the Vet stitched it all up and said bring her back in 3 weeks and we will see if we need to amputate.. The Vet was in shock when Misty was able to use the leg. Of course we still kept her quiet for a while longer.
Hugs to Molly, poor girl is lost with out her big guy around.
Like KC.... if ya want to talk let me know....
Love to you

Tango, if you get well, and stay well, that would be swell!
Newfs and Molly, hang in there, Tango is in skilled hands, and he will come home good as new!
P.S. Tango - if you were this attention starved, I could think of better (and less painful) ways to go about it....

Newfs,
You, Tango & Molly will be in my prayers. We all know what you are going thru and how hard it is. All of us old timers on here feel like we know him personally so give him a sloppy kiss on his forehead from me and my boys and tell him he is in my thoughts and prayers.
