First time posting here so hope it don't mess it up! Don't know if this has been asked before, but how many of you have pet insurance and has anyone taken policies out with www.vetinsurance.com. Been reading some good reviews about them. Is pet insurance in general worth it or is one better off with a 'pet account'?

C Like all insurance, if you're fortunate you won't need it! Pet insurance can get tricky .They have different levels of coverage. If (hopefully not) your pet gets an untimely ailment, you may find that insurance doesn't cover certain afflictions. Now, with that said, until a dog gets diagnosed with somethig you can never know what's covered or not because we aren't vets and are not familiar with common serious issues. Example. My sister had the unfortunate situation where her very young choc. lab had a failed liver. When she submitted the insurance policy, out came the list of issues that are NOT covered by insurance! She did get about 1/2 of lots of money paid (The dog didn't have what was on the non payment list) for procedures that ended up in the ultimate procedure! the pink needle. I took personal umbrage in this case because I got the dog for her and her family! I argued with dr.s about procedures if the dog won't recover! When do vets stop being dr.s and start becoming sales people. SO, I guess it comes down to paying 40 bucks a month. Confused yet? I didn't take out insurance, but do lots of rescaech on the coverages that are offered.

Hi Chuislie, I haven't heard of them, but our company uses Pet's Best and I'm enrolled with it for all 6 of my animals. It's modeled after human plans and they pay 90% of your claim. They are the same insurance company that either the SPCA or HSUS uses and PetHarbor endorses.. Here's some info on themhttp://www.dogtravelcompany.net/mc/page.do?sitePageId=57140&orgId=dtc

Hi, Frank and cmash. A belated thanks for your replies. :o) Yes, Frank, best thing to do is to compare as many companies as you can. Even though it can be time consuming it'll be worth it in the end. Cmash, Vetinsurance is pretty new in the US and may not be in all states yet so that's most likely why you haven't heard of it. Glad you seem to be happy with your insurance provider. :) Hope you all have a great new year!
