Greetings all. I am currently trying to get the city I live in to set up a Dog Park. Several other cities locally have them, I feel we should as well. If you would be so kind as to answer my questions it would be helpful when I go before our City Council Members. 1) Does your city have a dog park? 2) Do you use it, if so, how often? 3) Is there a fee to use the Park? 4) Who maintains the Park? 5) What do you like about the Park? 6) What DON'T you like about the Park? What would you change about the Park? 7) How are "problems" at the Park handled? 8) Did you have to sign a Release of any sort to use the Dog Park? 9) What "items" are at your Park, such as Water Fountains, Poo Bags, Ramps, Benches, etc. ? THANK you so much for any imput! HAPPY NEW YEAR! Melanie

Hope this helps Melanie 1) Does your city have a dog park? Yes & the county does also 2) Do you use it, if so, how often?Used it more before I got my own yard, but still do sometimes. 3) Is there a fee to use the Park? The city one no - the county one yes - annual license fee of $25 per dog 4) Who maintains the Park? Not sure - but the county one is pretty much wild prairie so doubt anyone does. 5) What do you like about the Park? Meeting others with dogs 6) What DON'T you like about the Park? What would you change about the Park? People with aggressive dogs that shouldn't be there. 7) How are "problems" at the Park handled? Most parks I've been to are self-policed by the people that attend them, but at the county one - you can file formal complaints with the county. 8) Did you have to sign a Release of any sort to use the Dog Park? No 9) What "items" are at your Park, such as Water Fountains, Poo Bags, Ramps, Benches, etc. ? Poo bags and benches. People bring their own water for the dogs, but all the dogs share.

good one my liege.. ..here on the Cape there is one crappy little dog park (which my boys do not go to) we run & play mostly in the woods/conservation areas ...and if one of them pooped somewhere other than the woods where no one is and I didn't pick it up I'd probably be hung from the highest flagpole and flailed.

Originally posted by missmelanie 1) Does your city have a dog park?----Yes, we have 3 dog parks on this Island 2) Do you use it, if so, how often?---- I "use" to take Tango there every weekend 3) Is there a fee to use the Park?---- No, they are free 4) Who maintains the Park?----The town that they are located in 5) What do you like about the Park?----Got to catch up with a lot of friends 6) What DON'T you like about the Park? What would you change about the Park?----I found out through my Vet, that quite a few dogs were coming into his office, all the dogs had something in common--> they ALL had the same kind of wierd infection, that dogs get from another dog that has pooped and was a carrier of a horrible bacteria, and is extremely contagious to other dogs, all the dogs that were showing up at the Vets with this bacteria, were dogs that were going to the dog park!!!! That ended my trips to dog park with my dogs....Since then (2 years ago) I take my dogs for nice walks thru the woods or beach....it's not worth taking the chance.... I forget what type of infection these dogs were getting, but it was BAD. The dogs didn't have to eat poop, they just had to only get near enough to it to sniff 7) How are "problems" at the Park handled?---- There are set guidelines, which most people obey 8) Did you have to sign a Release of any sort to use the Dog Park?---- No 9) What "items" are at your Park, such as Water Fountains, Poo Bags, Ramps, Benches, etc. ?----we only have poop bags and benches The other problem with towns having dog parks, is the liability to the town, most towns DO NOT want to be slapped with a law suit if something goes wrong at "their" dog park...dog parks are the responsbility of the town if they put it there... I do know in my town, it had to be put on a ballot for the townspeople vote!!!

Hi there..we have 2 dog parks in columbia but one is near the pound and it freaks me out. The one we belong to is great. 1) Does your city have a dog park? 2 2) Do you use it, if so, how often? I go whenever time allows. 3) Is there a fee to use the Park? We pay yearly dues and we have to show proof that the dogs have certain shots. Each member gets a key. 4) Who maintains the Park? The parks department (thanks to our fee) 5) What do you like about the Park? Its a safe environment for my dogs and the people are very nice. 6) What DON'T you like about the Park? What would you change about the Park? They don't have enough lights up and the parking lot is through wooded area so when the sun goes down, its a bit scary. People aren't always great about picking up after their dogs which stinks. 7) How are "problems" at the Park handled? We gang up on the people who aren't doing what the rest of us do...only kidding. Actually, its pretty much the honor system and if someone/some dog behaves inappropriately, either they leave or who ever is having problems with them takes care of it. Every now and again we've had to go to the park ranger. 8) Did you have to sign a Release of any sort to use the Dog Park? No 9) What "items" are at your Park, such as Water Fountains, Poo Bags, Ramps, Benches, etc. ? Pools..we have a bunch of pools-poo bags..lots of those too. We also have benches and toys. But mostly we all stand around and chat while the dogs play. Good luck getting a dog park PT

hi,

although in NZ here, my city actually has 4 dog parks, and 2 ~dog beaches~, the city council supplies not only water, hoses, and drinking fountains, but provides brown paper bags to pick up ones doggy doo, and put it in the rubbish bins provided.. un fortunately some pple like to stand their and watch their dogs defecate, and are too dang lazy to pick it up..

Im all for dog park,s i think it is relaly important for dogs as they are such social creatures..

1) Does your city have a dog park? Yes  2) Do you use it, if so, how often? Used to not anymore  3) Is there a fee to use the Park? Yes when u lisence ur dogs u can "sponsor the park with a $15. fee and u have to pick 1 weekend a mth where u and other will go there and clean up anything that needs to be {trash barrels, trash blown into the park and any poops not picked up.  they make u do that so that way no just one person is getting stuck with always taken out the trash ect.   4) Who maintains the Park? mostly the people that go there however if something is wrong with the fences, benches, or big holes dug up in the park , the parks department takes care of that stuff.  5) What do you like about the Park? I liked that all the dogs could run around and play without being leashed  6) What DON'T you like about the Park?  I stopped going there once there where to many issues with other owners . not picking up after there dogs leaving there dogs by themselves, too many dogs humping other dogs even though they where spayed just wasn't for me anymore . What would you change about the Park? Maybe Policing the people that come there. 7) How are "problems" at the Park handled? Mostly by the people there.  8) Did you have to sign a Release of any sort to use the Dog Park?Yes so u couldnt sue the city . 9) What "items" are at your Park, such as Water Fountains, Poo Bags, Ramps, Benches, etc. ? All of the above except ramps, also they have water bowls that they all share

We have several dog parks in cities very close to me. I used to use one of them but don't anymore. I no longer like dog parks at all! It's not a question of if something bad will happen, but when. I mean, if you put a large group of people together in one area you can and probably will have disagreements at some point. And these are animals we are talking about! They don't always "disagree nicely". Too many risks for me. I'd rather schedule play dates for my dogs with another friendly dog or two.

1) Does your city have a dog park? Yes, several. Including a dog beach.   2) Do you use it, if so, how often? I try to go once a week.  3) Is there a fee to use the Park? No.  The one I go to most often is in a very large park with picnic tables, playgrounds, jogging track, etc. The dog park is part of the amenities offered - it has a large dog and small dog area.   4) Who maintains the Park? City Parks Dept. 5) What do you like about the Park? large totally fenced area that Rio can run free and play with other dogs.  Also, great place to socialize with other dog owners.  6) What DON'T you like about the Park? The grass has been destroyed and Rio comes home filthy - we go on bath days!!! LOL What would you change about the Park? more grass! 7) How are "problems" at the Park handled? Between the owners - so far i have never seen anything that wasn't worked out in a friendly manner but park employees are available if needed.  8) Did you have to sign a Release of any sort to use the Dog Park? NO 9) What "items" are at your Park, such as Water Fountains, Poo Bags, Ramps, Benches, etc. ?  Water fountains for people and dogs, poo bags, large trash container, some tables with benches (wish there were more).

This info is about the park I usually use.  I sometimes go to a more informal one that is just a large fenced grassy area that has no "items".  I bring toys, water, and a folding chair and let Rio run.  I actually like going there more because of the grass but it's further away from my home.  During the summer I go to the beach dog park - it has water, even a "shower" to rinse off when you leave.  Rio loves it!

Good luck getting a dog park.  I think every community should "pony up" and have them!
