Hey guys I am going to be fostering a Brussels Griffon puppy mill rescue and her 6 four day old puppies. This is a emergency situation cause as I am the only foster home that does not have a foster right now and she is very stressed in the kennel where she is currently being boarded. I have never had a mama dog and puppies and am looking for any pointers what I can do to help her out. They tell me she is caring for the puppies so I wont have to bottle feed but tips on supplies or products that would be good to have on hand would be very helpful. I am thinking I will set her up in the bathroom so that she can have a quite warm space to help her adjust to living in a home. quicksand

How exciting to have a Griffon and her pups to foster...as long as she is being a good momma, not much you need to do. How old are the puppies? I have also been a "foster" to a few dogs, but I am not really good at it, because then I want to keep them all, it so hard when its time to let them go to their for-ever home....keep us posted how things go.....and good for you___for being a foster.

Quichsand, Congratulations!!! Brussels are great dogs and since you have a good momma your job should be pretty easy, for a few weeks anyway. My first suggestion would be to keep mom and pups warm and quiet. I hope the bathroom you are using is a spare. No too much traffic or visitors. Supplements for mom while nursing and a great food, will ensure lots of milk for babies. I like to offer cotage cheese just 1/4 cup wice a day will be a welcome treat and helps the mom. Fresh water is a must. Mom wont want to leave much for the first 2 weeks or so, you may have to carry her outside for potty. After a few weeks you may have to carry ghr back to the pup!!! Give mom her privacy, and have fun. This is a grea site for help and info. Kharly

Hey Guys Mama and baby have arrived they are all settled into my bathroom and seem to be doing well. I am worried though this is my first time fostering for this organization and they did not give me any medical paper work with her I picked them up last night. it was pretty cold and I was more concerned with getting her home and did not think to ask. she also has a lot of discharge coming out of one eye. I am keeping it clean with no more tears baby shampoo and I have contacted the coordinator about the paper work. Is that normal? the other rescue I was fostering for gave me paperwork for each one of the dogs with dates for all the shots and heartworm meds and stuff. I would love to here your thoughts and Kitt thanks for the great advice I am going to get some cottage cheese today. quick
