| | Seeing as how I've adopted an amazing black dog from the shelter I just wanted to let everyone know not to overlook them. For some reason they are the least likely to get adopted. http://www.blackpearldogs.com/ | | | |

| I adopted my black lab mix, Blackberry, from a shelter here about 4 1/2 years ago. When I first laid eyes on his picture on line, and went to meet him, there was no holding back! He is my first dog, and color was never an issue for me, although I have heard that some people consider that. Some people even told me not to ever take him outside on Halloween. Whatever!!
Welcome to the black dog club Allie!! | | | |

| Thats so cool how some of us can walk into a shelter and look beyond what statistics prove ...Shelter dogs have it rough enough and then add this stigma to them is sooo sad. . Thanks cosnow for the welcome to the club ! | | | |

| | Unfortunately, I think statistics show the same thing for black cats. They're harder to adopt. When I adopted Clara Bow, I went to the shelter specifically to get a black cat. She's such a gentle little soul I can't imagine anyone thinking she'd be undesireable.

| | Unfortunately there are many who do not want black dogs and the shelters are filled with them. I would not change anything about my black lab. My foster also was a black lab who is happily living up in Massachusetts now with a loving family. | | | |

| | My Lassie girl is mostly black with white markings on chest & paws ( pic on profile) and i fell in love with her at first sight everyone tells me how beautiful she is. Cant figure people out . SOme of these surveys are in very small areas so you dont get the whole picture too. All animals are beautiful in their own way. (((((HUGS from Helen & Lassie)))))))))))

| My little guy is a very dark brinde and everyone calls him the black dog in the community. He is handsome and sweet. He is so dark that last year for xmas I had to put a red bow on his neck with Santa so you could see him in the pic.
He is a stunning darling and yes, very striking.
These pups (and kittens) are just adorable. Of course aren't they all. | | | |

| | I don't understand the idea. my sister and I have 2 lab shepard mixes, 2 terrier mixes and a kitten that are black. two other cats that are mostly black and two more dogs that are brindle. I believe like people the color does not matter it is the personality of the individuals that should be used to adopt. The one lab shepard mix was a non-trained helping dog for my mother before she died. Cheechu trained herself to help my mother, and has one of the largest hearts of all my dogs. I look at it this way if these people don't like black animals then more for me. HA. | | | |

| | I think Martin said it best Judge not by the color of their skin but the content of thier caractor. Please excuse spelling. Color is something we should not not be looking at anymore. If this great leader could overlook and overcome social problems we can look at an animal for thier inner being. I am off my soap box. | | | |

| | Black cats are also discriminated against too. An animal shelter worker told me that black cats are looked over a lot. So when I found 2 black kittens I decided to keep them even though i wasn't prepared to take care of cats at that time. I worked a full time job and I hadn't had a cat for many years before. | | | |

| | I was unaware of that prejudice. We took in a black stray. I couldn't say what breed it is, just a mutt and is probably the sweetest dog that we have ever had. We live out in the country and one day in January we had sub below temperatures and Buster went into our garage and just kept barking until we opened the door. When we opened the door he ran into our house and has been our dog for about five years now. | | | |
