| | Hello,
I am new to AA. I personally have two cats and am moving to Manhattan in just a few short weeks. Today though, I am writing on behalf of a friend in need of a home for their dog.
The dog's name is Sasha. He is seven years old, around 65 pounds and a lovable, cuddly labrador/shephard/ridgeback mix - basically a mutt. This reason they are looking for a child-free home for him is because this past weekend, he was provoked and nipped at their 5 year old son.
The dog is currently at the vet under observation for rabies even though he has had all his shots. The little boy is fine - he needed 5 stitches, but will not have a scar and just wonders where his friend went. It is such a sad situation - but the family just cannot keep the dog in the house anymore. They just moved into a new neighborhood and cannot take the chance that Sasha will nip one of the neighborhood children or their other son who is only 5 months old.
The vet will keep Sasha through the end of next week (Jul 22). If my friends have not found a home for him by then, they will likely put him to sleep. They have considered a pound, but this is not a good option for a 7 year old mutt who has bitten once. My understanding is that the pound would keep him for 3 days and then put him to sleep. If my friends have the vet put him down, then Sasha will go to sleep after seeing his family rather than being in an unfamiliar place with all sorts of other dogs.
If you are interested in Sasha or know of any way to save him, please respond to this post. I do have pictures I can send if you would like to see him.
Thanks for you time. | | | |
