| | Hello,
Does anyone know a good dog training place in southern california. The only place I can find is petsmart and they dont seem to know what they are doing. I need to train my puppy to come to me when I call her and i must be doing something wrong, because its not working. If anyone has any advice that would be great

| | Can you give us a little more information.....how old is your pup, what breed, what approach to training "come" are you using, who's in charge? you or the pup?, are you the first owner? or trying to work with an animal that may have had some poor training to begin with? Lots of variables involved..... Have you checked the yellow pages for trainers? And your vet would have names to provide as well. Or, awesome books at the library, or on-line resources as well. Half of training the dog is training the owner! | | | |

| | Back in the seventies there was a club called
"The Obiedence Club of San Diego County"
I trained two Irish Setters with them in 73 and 74.
At that time they met at the Balboa parking lot.
How about a group of dogs practicing there down stay( with all the owners walking away) when looking back my male setter was using a samoyed for a pillow and both of them sleeping.
Instructor couldn't believe it.

Tell us what you have been doing so far to try and train your puppy to come to you... I'm sure that what you were shown to do probably works with many dogs but maybe there was something that you just need to add to the type of training...
*** What type of puppy are you wanting to train? Small, Medium or Large puppy?
*** Were you using the long leash type training with a food reward for comeing to you?
*** Consistancy is most important in training both pets and kids.... can't let any lack of following the command go without immediate correction (like putting them immediately back on the leash.. once you catch them..LOL...) and doing the "come" command all over again with its praise and reward upon obedience.
*** Granted it takes repeated and dedicated work for the first two (2) weeks but that is what imports the consistant guidelines to your pup as to what is or is not acceptable and how it will get 'mucho love and praise for being good'. Tell us more about you and your puppy... I know that many of the people here have great advice to give you ... we all learn from each other... what works for one puppy may not work for another puppy but someone here will have a solution.....
