Does anyone have either Rottweilers or German Shepherds?Or maybe even a Bullmastiff?I have all three breeds.I have 2 Rotts,1 GSD and a Bullmastiff.I love all of the breeds that I have, but the Rotties are my favourite. They are so intelligent and loyal and sometimes I swear they can understand every word you say.My GSD is also very clever but tends to be more aloof with people until she knows them.My Bullmastiff is a different kettle of fish altogether. She is as dim as a glow worms armpit.I have never met such a stubborn breed as this, although she makes me laugh at her antics. My 2 Rotts are a 7.5 yr old entire male called Bear and a 3 yr old entire bitch called Truffle.I have not nor ever intend to breed from them as they are my pets and I leave that side of it to the people with the knowledge. My GSD is a 6 yr old spayed bitch called Beattie and my Bullmastiff is a 5 yr old bitch called Lily.I love nothing more than getting the dogs and walking for miles.I live in Edinburgh in Scotland and the city is built around a dormant volcano. We have no less than 5 lochs in and around the city and I can walk from one side to the other without having to cross more than half a dozen roads.Out of my sitting room window I can see Arthurs Seat(the volcano) to one side, the River Forth to the other and all the way to the Kingdom of Fife from my bedroom window. When I walk outside my door,I only have to cross a road and I am on a canal path that has things like swans, geese, coots, mallards, herons and lots of other waterbirds. We also have badgers, foxes, mink, voles and quite often a seal will come up the river to feed on the salmon. It is a beautiful place and I am very lucky to live here and be able to walk my dogs in such lovely surroundings every day.

Feathers....I no longer have a Rottie, as mine developed cancer several years ago, and had to eventually be put down. You are right about the breed being both intelligent and loyal though. One of these days I am sure that I will own another. For now I have 3 adopted dogs. One is a full blooded Great Dane...an interesting breed that is extremely dependent on interaction with their humans. The second one is a blue healer mix. These two boys look like " Mutt & Jeff" together due to their size differences - but act like littermates ! The most recent addition is a female which is a chesapeake bay / lab retirever mix. She needs a lot of work, because she hasn't been socialized or trained much - but is very playful and happy, just the same. We live in Texas, in the DFW area ( north central ) .

Hi Feathers, I have two Rotties..Goliath, neutered 6 yr. old male and Tiponi, spayed, 9 mos. old female. The loves of my life! About 16 years ago I was honored to have a little Rottie pup which came to be called Baby, choose me as her forever mom. I lost Baby over 5 years ago to cancer & diabetes but she stays in my heart forever, she my the start of a love affair of Rotties. When Baby was 4 my husband at the time came home and told me that a lady he worked with needed to find a home for her 2 1/2 yr. old Rottie girl, Porsche. I lost Porsche at 12 1/2 yrs. of age in Oct. of last year. She was such a sweetheart and my vet said she went the way we all went them to go...naturally. I travel a lot and I was so thankful that the day she had to go I was home with her. Goliath was suppposed to be my son's but after losing Baby he decided I needed him more. Good think because he is a very expensive boy!! Total hip replacement, removed due to immune reaction to the cement after a year, cancer found & removed the same week I lost Porsche and just recently blindness due to Erlichea (sp?), but with treatment he has regained 40% of his sight and should continue to improve. I know this is long! Tiponi (means child of importance in Hopi Indian) was given to me by the Rottie Rescue group I volunteer wtih. They felt that after losing Porsche & Goliath's cancer that I needed her. She is so intelligent, excelling in obedience class and obtaining her CGC and looking to do agility and get her TDI. I visited Edinburg about 6 years ago and absolutely loved it!! The hotel I stayed in faced the castle and it was quite an awesome sight to see it lit up at night outside my window. In closing...Rotties are wonderful, misunderstood and I can't imagine my life without one.

My Brindel is a Neopolitan Mastiff (the Italians have it) and extremely stubborn. It requires a strong personality to raise mastiffs, especially Neo's. It is not so much that they are dim as they use the passive/aggressive reaction to situations. I find Brin to be entertaining with her antics, spoiled with the need to be the center of attention and jealous of the time I spend with my cat. Brin will steal the cat's food for spite. My animals don't necessarily get along as co-exist. When I turned 50, I got rid of everything that aggrevated me. - My long hair and my husband. I kept the dog!!!
