Hi- I have a beta fish in a ten gallon tank. I know that they are aggressive fish, who need to be alone, but I can't help but think that he must get lonely-I know he is just a fish. I have been told that a placostamus will do well with a beta, or snails. I tried snails twice and they died both times, within days, even though I bought algae discs for them to eat. The pet store tested the water in my tank, which I vacume about every 2 weeks and replace water, adding start right to take care of any chlorine, etc. I have read about placostamus and some resources say that they need a heater and air bubbles (which I do not have in my tank), but other sources say that they do not need these things. Anyone have a placostamus that does fine with out heating and bubbles. (The beta is a class pet and i worry that the electricity would go out over a weekend or vacation and the heater and air would not be available.)

Placo's can get very big and snails can reproduce asexually leaving you with many many more unwanted ones. In my opinion your betta is fine by himself. What did the pet store say?

placostamus are great to have in the tank...yes they do need bubbles but the heater if sat in the sun during the day it will be fine. i have had several over the years..last one got bout 8 inches and didn't have a heater. I have seen tanks with Beta's and other fish in them too...just can't be another Beta. Snails, I wouldn't put them in a tank, to much trouble as the person say before me. You can go to a flower place and buy u a Peace Lily and take it home wash off all dirt and stuff on the roots and put in with Beta and will give a hiding place. Good luck.

i just received a pleco in my rescue group and had to do my research. i found out their are many types of plecos that vary in temperment and size. i have a 'common' type living with some ryukin goldfish in a room temp tank. male betta fish are aggressive to other bettas and some colors in the tank. they are carnivorious fish...but do well in community tanks. they are also ok with a harem of female bettas.
