I need some help and/or advice. My 10 year old lab Brysten has diabetes, thyroid disease & cataracts. All of these things we have been dealing with for a couple of years, some longer then other's. Our problem now is she is throwing up, not eating, very weak, breathing very heavy & losing alot of weight. We have taken her to the vet many of time's, sometimes even leaving her over night for 24-hour care. It started off by the doctor's saying it was because her insulin was off, we fixed that & that was 3 week's ago she is still not better. Now they are saying that she might have bronchitis or some type of lung disease, but they are still not sure. They tell us that whatever is wrong with her can be fixed by nursing her back to health, which we have been doing for about a month now. We have had her checked for lymes disease, rocky mountain spotted fever, cushing's disease & a few other's. They have done ultrasound's, x-ray's, urine cultures & glucose curves. My question's to anyone that reads this is,

-Does anyone have any advice?

-Has anyone ever experienced this with their dog or know someone that has?

-Does anyone know any vets that may be able to tell me something/anything, maybe even something that we haven't checked for.

I would appreciate any advice and/or help that anyone can offer, right now we still feel that there is something that the doctor's are missing.

Thanking you all in advance for your help,

Kristen

Personally I would go to a different vet pronto, preferably one dealing in alternative vet care. It doesn't sound very good to me and your vet isn't doing anything to help your dog.

Sorry to hear your dog has so many ailments.... I looked at your profile, and not trying to be mean, but your Lab seems to be "very" over-weight, which doesn't help, especially with so many other things wrong with him...If it was my dog, and it was vomiting, not eating and losing weight, I would have had it to the Vets like yesterday.... a dog can get dehydrated very quickly..... good luck, let us know what the Vet says.....

Did your vet see any abnormalities with Brysten's heart or lungs? That was the first thing I thought of. Any fluid or enlargements? Has your vet flushed the lungs to test for other things? You may want to talk to your primary vet about seeing a specialist just to make sure nothing has been overlooked...and they should share the lab, xray, and U/S results with the specialist so you don't have to repeat all the tests. Good luck!

Brysten passed away this afternoon. The vets ending up finding out that she had pneumonia, a collapsed lung & she was down to 70 pounds. She has been at the hospital since yesterday and we went to see her this morning because they thought she was going to pass away. We got there and were able to pet her, kiss her & tell her that we loved her. She just waged her tail but couldn't get up because she was on oxygen. They said that there was a chance that the medicine would work and she would recover. We came home and  later received a call that said she had stopped breathing and her heart stopped, they tried to resusitate her but were unsuccessful. As much as I wanted her to live forever it just hurts to know that's how she had to go. We repeatedly told the vet that they needed to check her lungs and to check for pneumonia, the vet and the vet specialist reassured us that they did and that was not it. Then to find out that, that is exactly what was wrong with her is very upsetting. You wonder if they ever really checked for that. If they would have done what they were supposed to she still might be here. I knew that eventually this day would come and it would hurt, but I never realized that it would hurt this bad. I feel like there is a hole in my heart that will never heal. To know that I will never see her adorable face or get to kiss, hug & hold her again seems unreal.

For all of you reading this please do me a favor...hug, kiss, hold, love & cherish your pet's. I wish I had more time to do that with Brysten. Also if you have a gut feeling that something is wrong with your pet please be persistent & have the vet run every test until they have ruled everything out. If we would have pushed the vets harder Brysten would still be here.

I am so, so sorry to hear this. I have my own issues with traditional medical care...vets and doctors. I wish you didn't have to go through this......I truly feel for you.

My thoughts and prayers are with you...I recently felt the searing pain of losing a beloved pet too. They stay alive in our hearts forever.
