I'm just wondering if anyone has any advice for me. I have a large lab mix dog that is one and a half. Ever since he has been very young he has been aggressive toward children (young boys in particular). I had him neutered when he was about 9 months old, but it has not changed his personality in that aspect. He has never biten anyone, but he will run up to them and start barking a very deep bark and his hair on his back stands up and he kinda lunges forward at them. What should I do?

If I were you? I would make sure I have PLENTY of homeowners insurance, because it sounds like the day will come when the dog does bite a young boy....

I would consult an animal behaviorist; I agree with the previous poster that right now it sounds like the dog would bite a child with even a little provocation... I am sure a behaviorist would be able to help, they sometimes give free advice over the phone.  Once, my cat was continuously "going" outside of the box and I called a behaviorist: for free, she gave me some advice that worked immediately and I have not had the same problem since... I am thinking that the behavior that your dog is exhibiting may take a little more work than that, but definitely call.

I agree with seeing a behavioist right away! I took my dog to one not because of being aggresive but because she was afraid of everyone. She would cower and hide. I took her and with alot of work she has come out of her shell she still is very cautious but at least she doesn't hide know.

Please, please be careful.  Kids and dogs are unpredictable!!  See a reputable trainer/behaviorist.  Never leave the kids and dog unsupervisied.  You need to protect your kids first, and then protect your dog from the kids.

I agree that a behaviorist would probably help. But defintely keep the dog away from all children. My dog is aggressive towards adult male strangers, so I'm hypervigilant when he meets new people.

You can't be too careful.
