I adopted my girl Luna from a shelter on Maui and during her spay procedure she was given a microchip and ID tattoo in her ear. Since then I have moved to Louisiana and have no idea how to go about getting her ID information updated. I have emailed the shelter she was adopted from but have yet to receive a response. Does anyone have any experience with ID information? I have read online that there are several types of microchips and I do not know the type used by the Maui Humane Society. I appreciate any advice you have!

B
have your new vet scan the dog. he should be able to read the chip information.that shopuld tell you which chip company is in the dog. "Home Again" is a popular inserted chip.

Yes, Frank is right...Home Again the the most popular Micro-chip.... once you have your dog scanned by your Vet, you will get the serial numbers from the micro-chip....once you have the serial numbers you can go to Home Again online and change all the new information yourself.....when your dog was microchipped at the shelter, they didnt give you a copy of the chip info?????

Thanks for the advice guys. No Newfs, the shelter didn't give me any information at all about her microchip and ear tattoo. Microchipping is optional at the shelter and I paid an extra fee to have it done, but when I picked her up after being spayed they only gave me some tips on taking care of her while she recovered, no mention of the microchip. :( I'm wondering too about the tattoo in her ear. I have no idea what kind of system is in place for using tattoos to ID dogs or where that information is kept. I am hoping to hear back from the shelter where I got her, but in the meantime I will call my vet here and see what they can do.

Bears when I adopted ZIma I had to register her microchip in my name . The dog rescue had just bought a bunch of them and they were all registered to the dog rescue. It was a headache but I contacted the AVID company, they sent me a registration form and I sent it back with the funds. I would definitely make sure that she was microchipped. I would contact the shelter myself as well as your vet. good luck and let us know how it goes.

It seems my dogs chip has migrated into his leg!! So when you take a chipped pet to the vets for even a nail trim have them scan the chip. I just found this out today. What I thought may have been a small lump of scar tissue was his chip at the top of his leg. He came from a bad neighborhood and has a piece of his ear missing so I assumed it was maybe scar tissue. So my vet has a call into the company and we are waiting a reply as their chips are guaranteed.
