Do your cats (or dogs) have an interesting rescue story.  Why not share it here.  Here is one from me.  I have several cats, most were strays, but this story is different I think.  I was at the barn that we were boarding our horse, and my daughter found this kitten in the mouth of a dog.  The dog was known by me to feed cats to her puppies.  She'd bring them to them, when I petsat her I would find all these dead kittens. (Yuk!)  So my daughter was able to get the kitten away from the dog. That was Jonah's story.   A few days later we were at the barn again and I heard this sad meowing.  I followed the sound.  I just knew it was another kitten.  Sure enough, trapped below the floor he must have fallen thru the grates into the manure pit.  We were able to rescue him by dropping down a can of cat food, which I just happened to have (sometimes I left food in the barn for the barn cats), and the kitten came over to eat it.  Then my daughter stuck her arm thru the grate to try to grab the kitten, but her arm got stuck, I told her not to move it so it wouldn't swell, and ran to the farm house to try to get some vaseline to rub on her arm to get it out, when I got back, she had removed her arm, somehow.  We found a piece of rope and made a noose.  Dropping the noose thru the grates, we were able to get the noose over his neck and lift him thru the grate.  A couple of more days and he wouldn't have fit.  Of course, I couldn't leave this kitten in the barn after that dramatic rescue, so that is how I got Four-Paws.

Here is my story of pet rescue or rather human rescue! I had lived with two cats since they were kittens.I adopted them both at different times from the same woman. The woman lived in a rural area and was not an animal person! Yet, people would dump cat and kttens on her property. As it turns out the two cat were sisters. We lived together for nine years then a third little kitten came along. After a year or so I lost all three due to personal hardship. I asked this women a co-worker know if she sit the "Girls"til I settled again. She agree and with a monthly check from me I beleived all was well. When I resettle five months later I called here to arrange pick up for my "Girls".Only to find out that she had left the cats off at some vets office. When I contacted the vets office they were cruel to me thinking that I had left the cats there. The vet informed me that since he didn"t take in animals the cat were taken to the local pound.I then go to he pound only to find out that they were over crowed with cats and that they had put down my cats. Returning to a new and empty home was awareness of the plight of aniamls in this country. As it turns out a new co-worker lost here house to fire and came to live in the first floor apt of my house.A worker from the humane society came over and wanted me to take in this cute kitten who had been abused,I was still grieving and just couldn"t so my friend took in the kitten. My friend being a dog person was in need of some help that night giving this kitten some meds and treating his wounds. When all was done I went to go to my apt and bravely and boldly being injured as he was he followed me thru two rooms and looked up an tried to meow(his mouth for almost sealed close from blister we think it was some type of poison)But It was his eyes that said I going home with you. Pumpkin pie is now 12years old and 16lb and still throws his ball at me to play with him.I still wonder who adopted who!!

I'm a new member and I guess I need to introduce us to all of you and this seemed the most appropriate spot. Mamma was an abandoned stray in my apartment complex for a few years before she came to my back porch in April 2000. I would put food out on my porch and she'd come to eat. She would stand at the glass door and beg if the bowl was empty (showing me she was nursing kittens) and she soon let me pet her and she would nap along the rail of my porch between meals and caring for her kittens. In a few weeks I came home to find she had moved her four kittens to my storage closet. They were just under five weeks and it was love at first sight!

I had Mamma spayed when the kittens were weaned and sought homes for three of the kittens and kept the "runt", Nerys, who now rules the house. She is absolutely the smartest cat I've ever had. Mamma is just happy to have a home where her needs are met.

Maru7, that's such a tragic story about your first two cats. I can't believe how cruel that woman could be to give your cats away without even telling you! Awful. I seriously would have had a hard time not doing bodily harm to someone who did that to my pets.

I'm so sorry that happened to you and your cats.

I think, cats especially seem to adopt us more than we adopt them. I can't understand how some people can be so cruel to animals or so thoughtless as your coworker, but unfortunately there are many stories similar to your that happen to animals more often than I like to think. I'm so happy to hear that Pumpkin Pie has found you and given you the life you lost with your "girls". I can feel you have a special heart that animals will always find.

Peace and long life!
