HELP! LOSTDOG! Owner is very upset! Lost in Natick (near Roche Bros.) in Massachusetts.
Hello, thank you for reading this. My neighbor Eileen lost her little Italian Greyhound named Winter yesterday afternoon in Natick, near the Roche Bros. grocery store. She's very timid and shy, but extremely gentle and will not bite. However, she's so shy she may not come to you. If you're lucky and she does approach you, you may pick her up, and she will not bite. She'll shake like a leaf, but will not bite.
If you see her, please call Eileen as soon as you can at 508-877-5125.
Thank you in advance for your help. Say a prayer for little Winter.

| That's SO nice of you. The owner doesn't have a computer, so I have no picture. The Animal Rescue League has been helping her and giving her advice. They've set up a feeding station where she was last seen. I offered to go out to help today or tomorrow, but there haven't been any recent sitings, so I'm not sure where we'd even look. They put flyers up, but shortly after putting them up, someone took most of them down. They did also put flyers up in store fronts. They called all the local vets. The dog is microchipped. The animal control officer has been less than helpful. I'll let the owner know of your offer. Thanks again! | | | |

| Hi, I did post this on my myspace page and it was repost by several others. Hope you find Winter. Also, I would let the owner know that she might want to alert the microchip company and let them know that the dog is lost--JUST IN CASE SOMEONE BRINGS IT INTO THE VETS OFFICE. Mary | | | |

| I went tonight to help the owner look for Winter. We had no luck as far as getting her, but not only have there been tons of sightings, but the owner saw her also. She even was able to trap her in someone's fenced in yard by closing the gate. But, the dog jumped right over the fence from a sitting position! :shocking: The dog has pretty much stayed in the same general area, not too far from where she went missing. She did have a collar on, but it is no longer on her. There were 2 other dogs in the car with her at the time (2 Bichons). The area is saturated with bright colored posters and we put a few more up. Also, her neighbor xeroxed a bunch of flyers and put them in people's mailboxes. The dog was also spotted in a cemetary. We search it several times and left food, water, and a blanket under a tree where she was spotted earlier in the day.
A little background - She got the dog a week ago from a breeder from N. Attleboro. She saw an ad in the paper for a free IG. This was the second ad she saw from this breeder. The first one was for a male IG. Eileen wasn't really looking for a dog, but decided to call anyway. This breeder told her that the dog wasn't up to AKC standards and that normally they put these dogs to sleep right after they're born (is this true?). I guess she didn't know right away that it wasn't up to standards and kept the dog. She said once she knew, she didn't have the heart to put the dog down. She kept her for 2 years. She told Eileen she hadn't socialized the dog. When she brought Eileen the dog she conveniently 'forgot' the papers. She told Eileen the dog is spayed. From listening to her, it doesn't sound like the dog is too unsocialized. She followed her around the house and even jumped in the shower with her. She has no pictures of her because she's had her for such a short time. Dogs are not new to Eileen. She has 2 Bichons, 2 cats, birds, and fish. She also used to have a greyhound. But she does not know about Italian Greyhounds.
I'm very encouraged at all the sightings from today. However, she's been running up and down a very busy street and there are several ponds in the area. Eileen is completely worn out. She's been sleeping in her car in an area where the dog was spotted. She hasn't been eating. I think I convinced her to sleep at home tonight. She ate a sandwich when I was with her. The groundskeeper at the cemetary took Eileen's number and is keeping an eye out for Winter. He said he was going to walk around with his dogs later this evening to see if he can spot her. When I left, Eileen was heading back to the cemetary. I suspect Winter found another place to bunker down for the night. She was in someone's garage last night, but unfortunately, they opened the door and let her out. They had called the police and they told her to call back in the morning.
Eileen could definitely use some help. She's mostly on her own. But, the people in the area have been wonderful. Everyone is really trying to help her and they've been calling her whenever they see her. Keep your fingers crossed!

| | You can bring your dogs. It's hard to know if it will help or hurt. I brought Bella and it was helpful in that when we told people about Winter we just pointed at Bella and said she looks like this only she's white. Eileen has 2 other dogs. The only thing for me was that we spent a lot of time in and out of the car and it made it a bit difficult to have Bella with me. So, it's really up to you. Thanks so much for helping. | | | |

| Good news, bad news:
Winter has been FOUND!!!
The bad news is that she was hit by a car. The Sherbourne police found her and called Eileen. Eileen said Winter was conscious when she got to her and she took her to Angel Memorial. She has a fractured pelvis and is stressed. Eileen is allowed to visit with her for an hour and is headed over there now.

| Not sure if I'm glad to hear it, but I guess it could have been much worse. Please keep us posted and send our thoughts to Eileen! | | | |

| | I just talked to Eileen today. Winter had surgery to have plates put in her pelvis (she had 2 broken bones). She did well and is home now. She has to be immobile for about 8 weeks. I think she's pretty uncomfortable right now, but Eileen is treating her like a queen. Thanks for asking. Eileen is very grateful for all the concern from everyone on this board and the Italian Greyhound board. | | | |
