I have a neighbor who has a bunch of cats. Of course it all started with a female cat getting pregant. Here comes the kittens....and from then on more and more babies. I , my son, my daughter-in-law (who has made a friend of her) have talked to her about getting the cat fixed and giving the kittens homes. I just found out she did not give away the first two bunches of babies and now they have kittens. I know one female has babies in the woods behind my house! (I live in Georgia so the weather is weird. It is cold 40's , 65 up and then manybe back down to the 30's or below.) Not only am I worried about the momma cat and kittens ...I worry about my cat getting out and fighting with them. (I am sure if they are not fixed you can bet they have had no shots.) There are to many cats in the neighborhood now. My son called animal control and a group that is suppose to do something about strays. No one will come unless they have hurt someone. They say they are just a nusance (? spell) right now. I am burning up with the treatment of us and these animals! I am disable and not able to go over there and fuss them out (as if it would do any good). Any ideas on what I can do? Is it the holidays ,why no one will help? Hope someone has an idea on how I can help these furbabies. Thanks for at least reading this and letting me vent. If you can help...God Bless you. I hope I posted in the right forum ???? I wish everyone a Happy Holiday to all of their furbabies and featherbabies and so forth.....love and peace to all.... EL (elesimp)

El, here are some websites with info and/or organizations you can contact for help. This is too large a project for you to take on yourself. Also, you shouldn't take this on yourself for legal reasons - once you start putting money into a cat colony, you become their "owner," and legally responsible for them. If one cat should bite someone, technically someone could go after you for all the rabies innoculation costs, etc. Heaven forbid you should get bitten yourself. This is where the colony's management by an organization comes in: manpower, money/resources, legal documents/insurance. http://www.alleycat.org/orgs.html#ga - Click on your state to be taken to a list of organizations and the counties they help http://www.feralcat.com/ - This one is out of San Diego, but contains wonderful articles about why TNR is a much better solution than attempts at eradication http://animallaw.info/statutes/statestatutes/stusgaset.htm - Discusses and outlines the laws regarding animals in your state. Whatever you do, don't give up. If one group ignores you, go to the next group. Play them against each other if you have to. You're not in this to make friends, though you certainly don't want to make enemies. You're in this for the cats. If one group can't help, ask them for referals. Speak up for those who don't have a voice! Hope this helps! Cathy and the Crew

Does your city have an animal limit of how many you can own? Most cities go by the 3 day rule. if you've fed it for 3 days it's yours. If she has that many cats then she must be over the limit. I would suggest getting a current copy of your citites animal control ordinances/laws and figuring out what she is violating and let the animal control officer know, I can't imagine that the only rule they have is that if the animal bites then they'll do something about it.

Thank you for all your advice, it has really helped. I have taken action against this neighbor and so far the cats have not been around. I am looking into what happened. I will get back to you as soon as I hear. EL
