I have 5 dogs & work with our local humane society here, and we have a dog like none I've ever seen before. Lex is very beautiful, for sure, and everyone loves him. But he's also got a very adaptable quality that makes him independent, happy, and hard to describe. He's lovable and wants to be by your side, but isn't particularly 'needy' for your attention, like most dogs - esp. shelter dogs - are. He's a sheltie or collie mix, 31 lbs., & 1 yr. old, so he's full grown. He's neutered, too. He's a perfect size in that he's not a huge dog, so he curls up small next to you, but is big enough, esp. because of his long legs, to look more like a 50+ lb. dog; (meaning height, not weight, because he's very fit & thin). We're in a small town and he just hasn't been seen by the right people. Everyone loves him, and he's good with other dogs & cats. He's fine with kids, too, but I wouldn't recommend young kids. He's active and loves to run and fetch, but will curl up next to you in bed at night. He should have a fenced yard, and someone who likes to walk or run with him. He's great in the car, too. We brought Lex home to foster him, and decided to keep him, despite already having 5, because he was that wonderful. Unfortunately, the addition of him upset our "Pack Order" of 5 (fixed) girls, and our 4 younger dogs attacked our oldest twice when he was here, and that never happened before. He wasn't attacking, but after talking with many trainers, and knowing the personalities of the other 4 dogs, (& their backgrounds), we're not going to be able to add another, or keep him. We're retraining them, having to separate them and put up gates in the house, etc., and it's just too confusing and tense to have another dog in the mix now. The shelter is wonderful and they let him run in the fenced yard with other dogs half the day, and he runs around in the shelter and office, too, because they love him. He'd actually be a great dog for commercials, because of his cute stare, intelligence, & ability to adapt. He's spent 3/4ths of his life in our shelter, though, and he needs a good, forever home. Please contact me for pictures - I have tons of them! And he is on our Petfinder.com site, too - Go to Smithgall Woods Animal Shelter (zip 30571) to see one of his pictures there. Also, I posted some pictures in my gallery, so go to this site and find my page to see those pictures. Please pass on if you know of anyone - he is just too special and unusual, personality-wise, to not get a great home! We would drive to get him placed, and we do want to find the right home for him, so if you don't have a fenced yard, or the ability to give him long walks daily, or do have lots of dogs or children, this is not a good match. A single person or couple who's active would be ideal! Or someone with a cat or another dog. He also would be great on vacation trips! |
