14 - 5 - 10

It's raining Pointers.  Here are just a few of them:  Money, Bart, Koda - California, Spot - New York, Elmer - Connecticut, NoName - Pennsylvania, Berkley -Massachusetts, Clyde - South Carolina, Sparky - Colorado, Dro - Maryland, Barkley - Washington State, Duke, Princess, Ghost - Oklahoma.

Fourteen dogs submitted to our rescue program in 5 days, from 10 different states.  I'm certain other rescues are experiencing the same thing.

Lost dogs, dumped dogs, dog's whose owners are too sick to care for them.  Fourteen pointers in 5 days.  How do we step up to the plate to help them??  We can only save some of them.  Why?  Because we can only help the dogs that we have foster homes for.  A foster home opens their heart and home to a dog in need.  Thus becoming a half-way house between a shelter and a forever home.

The California dogs are young - 2 yr olds.  Clyde is a senior, he just needs a home to love him in his golden years.  Some have been hunted over, some are companion animals in the finest sense of the word.  Some have yet to learn how good life can be.  At the very least, NoName deserves a name and a home to call his own.

14 - 5- 10.  Fourteen opportunities within the last five days alone to save a dog and make a difference.

Consider what you can do, foster, adopt, help with transports, sponsor or donate.  We need you.  The dogs need you.

Please contact PointerRescue, or your favorite breed rescue organization, today.  Money, Bart, Koda, Spot, Elmer, NoName, Berkley, Clyde, Sparky, Dro, Barkley, Duke, Princess, Ghost....and countless others are praying you do.

It's me - on my soap box again.

I have encouraged fostering as a way to help your favorite breed rescue program.  But did you know, you can help in other ways even if you can't foster at this time?  Rescue programs need voluteers who can screen applications, do home visits, provide support to foster homes, help with transports.  Financial support is always welcome too!

Perhaps you have talents in web site development - offer your services to a rescue program.  Maybe you quilt and can make a quilt a rescue group can raffle off.  If you have a background in public relations, share your talent with a rescue.  Are you a professiona photographer???  Rescue programs always need good pictures of their dogs for their website.

Pointer Rescue needs volunteers on many levels.  I got involved after I adopted my first english pointer.  I give back because I love Mick so much I had to share my time and talents with them.

Please consider becoming a rescue volunteer.........  We need good volunteers like you.

I totally agree with the fostering program.  People do strange things when it comes to their pets.  Sometimes I can't believe the stories I hear.  I know how hard it is givng up a dog that you've come to love, I adopted the last three I fostered!  I know people who run themselves crazy trying to keep up with the work it takes to run a shelter.  It's just too many pets and not enough caring souls.  Their are shelters for purebreds, specific breeds and their mixes, and also mixes of every breed you can think of-mutts I quess their called, but that seems a bit harsh.  Pets can fill your life in ways you can't even begin to imagine.  Adoption is great, but if fostering is your limit, try it, you'll be doing such a great thing for the pet-socialization, normalcy, love, which many have never experienced, some training and loads of fun for them!  You may even learn and enjoy too.  Remember, THERE ARE ALWAYS MANY ANIMALS OUT THERE NEEDING TEMPORARY OR PERMANENT HOMES!  JUST PICK ONE !  YOU'LL  BE HAPPY YOU DID!

I feel like a broken record sometimes, but one way to advocate for dogs is to advocate volunteerism - be it fostering, transporting, or any other support of a rescue or shelter.

You get such satisfaction, and they get a second chance.  It's a win-win situation regardless of the breed you help.

Don't be afraid to ask questions if you'd like more information on assisting a rescue program.
