A few months ago I went to adopt one of my cats, Jaz, at the local SPCA here in North Bay, and found that some of their rules are ridiculous when it comes to being able to bring home your chosen friend. When I had finally chosen Jaz - althought then she was called Ebony - I sat in the lobby with my boyfriend filling in a three page application in order to take her home. Understandable. They need to know that they aren't going to be seeing this animal again due to neglect or abandonment. But while I was waiting, a man came in with this incredibly wonderful black labrador and wanted to surrender the dog due to constant bad behaviour in his home. Slightly understandable, although, a dog can be trained.
Anyways, he was denied to surrender the dog because it was a Saturday and the SPCA's manager would not be in until Monday.
The same thing went for me - I could not take Jaz home because it was a Saturday.
What I don't understand is why they would allow these people to take the animal back when it is clear that they do not want them. This is when, in my mind, the man drives out in the middle of nowhere and let's the dog go because he:
a) doesn't have the tolerance for the dog.
b) can save a few bucks rather than paying to surrender it.
I find this to be ridiculous. They should be willing to take animals at any time during their normal hours of operation - if not 24/7.
Just looking for anyone else's opinion. |
