ANYONE can do this:

Find a no-kill/rescue that wants help, then do the following:

Ask local businesses in your area (5-10 would be great) to SPONSOR an animal every month or every quarter.  Place their information on the animal's bio, i.e., John of Johnny's Chevy sponsored Fluffy the cat, so Fluffy is now seeking a loving home!   This is already working in some areas.  It is very good for animals, for the sponsor, and for the community!!!

PS  Maybe the business person will also display the animal's photo/info at the company location (for adoption and humanitarian reasons).

I see this system in place now.  It's VERY effective!!  

PS  YOU DON'T NECESSARILY HAVE TO HELP IN YOUR OWN COMMUNITY, IF PERHAPS THE NEIGHBORING COUNTY IS IN DIRE NEED....OR HELP BOTH!!!

gosh, i am sooo glad that you give such good ideas!

after adopting my dog from a no kill shelter and then volunteering for them, watching animal planet daily, and being an avid reader, i had no idea of the plight of animals!
i am so happy that you are bringing all of these issues to the forefront of aa!

my main question is why wait until next year to start saving lives? why can't i start now?  also, is there a way to know i have saved exactly 100 animals like your posts says?

now...if i can just stop buying school supplies for the underprivileged children in my class!
