Yesterday we finally decided that our Golden Retreiver Mugsey should have to fight so hard anymore. We were going to put him down. He'd been diagnosed in October with chronic kidney failure. Realistically he had been losing weight, but this past month has been the hardest. Memorial Day weekend we took him to camp (thinking it would be the last time) I took lots and lots of pictures this time, and he had fun, he laid around a bunch but he did have fun. The last two weeks, he stopped going down the stairs, we moved him down to the family room last week so he wouldn't have to go down the steps.
Friday he stopped eating, Sunday he stopped going outside, and taking any fluids.
We decided it was time, we made the appointment to take him yesterday at 12:15, when we were getting him ready to go, my husband lifted him up, like you would a child, and his head moved once, and that was it, he died right there at home in my husband's arms. I think he was waiting until we were home together, then that was the time to go. Mugsey was 13, and has been a part of our family for almost 7 years. We rescued Mugsey from a home in which he was kept outdoors for every season. We think he had a good life with us, but I thought I had a few more minutes to say goodbye. But I did have time to tell him that I loved him, that he was a good dog, and that if he was ready to go ahead and go. I never imagine this would be this hard......God I miss him so much |
