On Monday May 5, 2008 at approx 7 pm my best friend  Diablo was put to rest.

I have had Diablo since he was 5 weeks old and he was 11 yrs old. He had cancer and it was just eating at him.

He was the best dog in the world. I know he is in a better place, he is whole again and no longer in pain, but God I miss him SO much. There is a whole in my heart that hurts.

That boy knew me oh so well. He knew when I needed a hug, when I was sick or when I needed some joy, he was there. He had a Beautiful soul and will be missed by all who knew him.

His uncle came 200 miles to be here with him when he passed. My son, his brother was also there as they grew up together and my son wanted to be here for him at the end.

We discovered the cancer last Oct  but with meds and procedures he stayed with us till Monday.

God rest your wonderful soul Diablo and some day I will be there with you!!

I miss you baby and you will always be my Handsome man!!!!!

                                       Love Mom

Sorry to hear about your loss Thats the hardest part of loving a pet so much, when it's time to let them go, to be free from pain and suffering.

I am so sorry. I know that is one of the toughest decision to make. I made that same decision almost three years ago. You are right Diablo is in a better place. As time passes the pain will ease but Diablo will always be with you. In your heart. I know that doesn't help now but I promise the pain will get better.

I'm so sorry for your loss; my heart goes out to you. There is nothing harder than making that decision even when it is the right one. He's in a better place and is patiently waiting until the day you join him. Until then, he is happy and healthy living in your heart. God bless!

God bless you, your family and Diablo. Thank goodness you were there to ease his pain and discomfort and he was not alone and was well-loved. I too am heading down that road and can only think of it from the human side. I believe that animals too benefit from what we need when we are sick and moving to our next big adventure! I hope you will do something sweet to remember him - plant a tree, make a plaque, have people donate to pet organizations. You are in my prayers CallieandCol

Read the poem "Rainbow Bridge" it is comforting. Diablo is dancing right now with my Boxer Casey. They will wait for us. God Bless you.

I'm so sorry for your loss.    I also lost my fur baby to cancer in February and I miss him so much every day.  It's amazing how much our pets touch and enrich our lives.  We are better for having known them...

I know what you are going through. It will be 1 year on June 26th, that we lost Murphy to a stroke. She was 13 years old and we had her since she was 8 weeks old. With grown children, she was our baby. A month before she passed, something/someone (maybe Murphy) said to me, you need to go to North Shore and check out the adoptions. We did and on May 26th, exactly 1 month before Murphy's passing, we brought home Maggie. Murphy was gentle and tough with her - like she was showing her the ropes of life in our home. Maggie has helped with Murphy's passing, but we still miss her terribly and there are many times when I call Murphy's name, meaning to be calling Maggie instead.
Maggie now has a little brother - JJ. They are best buddies and play most of the day.
It's easy for me to say, get another baby. We did and it helped. Only you know what you have to do for your peace of mind. I never thought I would have to have Murphy put to sleep, but I could not continue to see her suffering. My husband was very upset at seeing her going through the stroke and although he knows that it was the right thing to do, sometimes he questions whether we did the right thing. I know we did.
I know Murphy is a happy pup, without the arthritis and stiffness that old age brought on. and she is not suffering anymore. And I also know that she is watching out for Maggie and JJ. She was/is a very loving Lab.
I am with you in your time of sorrow. Much love and sloppy kisses from Diablo and Murphy.

I just wanted to say Thanks to you all for your thoughts and understanding!! I have now uploaded a photo of Diablo for you all to see. I couldn't do it before as it hurt too much, still does!!
My other "kids" are still in mourning for him as we all are. I visit his grave daily and talk to him.
That was the hardest thing I ever had to do and I know I will have to do it again someday, but I hope it is a long time coming.
Again, Thanks for everything!!!!

Smittey
