| | Sometimes there comes a time when choices have to be made that and not very comforting even down right disturbing. After a couple months of trying to rehome some of my cats due to a move, I found no one interested in my older cats. Well trained and loving, great companions just to be taken to a Human Society. There they will be evaluated for a week, and then put up for adoption. The bad part again is since they are older, their chances are low for adoption.
That is why I am posting here:
Little Eve
Eve was one of Little Momma's kittens, Little Momma was a rescue. Eve was actually adopted with a sibling, but was returned because the person decided 2 kittens were too much. Very leggy, yet small and sleek, Eve resembled a Russian Blue. She was nothing more than your everyday common house cat. Her real name Eve Ville... she was quite the meanie when it came to getting bed critters such as feet, toes and fingers. She was quite the little *cough* helper in the kitchen and felt she needed to supervise and have a taste of everything. Except when it came to lettuce, if I was making a salad, I knew I was going to get a few leg rubs and eventually a few claws to alert me that she needed lettuce too. Eve loved lettuce! When she wanted something, she was never shy to ask, sometimes even demanding. She was a wonderful addition to my home.
ReRe
I moved into a bad neighborhood, in fact little did I know at the time, right next to a crack house. One day there was a little fat kitty at my back door. I fed the kitty and petted her. The next day she was back with another kitty with longer hair. I dubbed them Oreo and D.D. (double dip, black and brown). D.D. climbed up on the roof of the crack house and had her kitten up there. I had the courage to go to the crack house and tell them I was going to build a ramp so DD and the kittens could get down. They did, and I found a local rescue to take her and the kittens.
A few days later ReRe showed up and I could tell she was pregnant now, even though she was nowhere near a year old. My dog got out of the house chased her and I didn't see her for a week. Then there were suddenly 2 black kittens at my back door! I took them both in and helped ReRe with her Kittens, I named the second cat Magic. When the kittens were old enough to be moved, I called the rescue again and they refused to help me. They told me since I had her a week she was mine. And they would not take her. I raised the kittens to adoptable age, found homes for all But ReRe and 2 kittens (Boogers and Merlin).
I continued to look for homes for the 3 cats, taking out Ads in the paper, putting them on a local radio station and fliers. I was able to get Merlin and Boogers neutered (boys are cheaper) then eventually Magic and ReRe were spayed. Magic and I had a 'special' connection (she peed on me!) and I had decided to keep her (actually thinking I would never be able to place her). The years went by and the 4 eventually became mine. This is when I decided since I couldn't seem to get any assistance from the local rescue I HAD to look the other way when it came to cats. I found out the city was pretty much over run with cats and if someone wanted a cat they would just go snag one from somewhere.
ReRe was so tiny, weighing less than 5 pounds full grown. She had the cutest sleepy eyes, always looking not quite awake. She hated her boys and would hiss at them if they got close. But she would cuddle with Raven, Eve or Momma in a second, just not her own kids. She developed allergy to fleas and would do the cutest little thing with her paw when she was licking her side, it was sorta like she was offering you her hand to kiss, Queen style.
ReRe and her boys are kissers, licking your fingers if given a chance. ReRe was never in the way and was a quiet addition to my kit of Cats. I called her Itty Bitty.
I hope they are able to find homes, but I know the reality is that they will be led to the Rainbow Bridge. No one wants older cats. I feel horrible that I had to do this. I feel horrible that in just a couple weeks I am going to have to do it again. I am crushed and feel as though I don't want to move. I feel as though I have let them down and I beg forgiveness. Life is not fair for humans either.
Eve and ReRe, please know I loved you and I did all I could for you. I will never forget the laughter you brought me, made me get up and move when I didn't want to. You helped give me life, kept me grounded and gave me hope for tomorrow. I pray for you that someone will have a place in their heart for you. I will miss you. | | | |

| | Zig - I'm so sorry it came to this. I'm sure you agonized over this. Unfortunately, you may be right in what you think will happen, but I will pray your fur babies will find happy homes and/or a no kill cat shelter will take them in for the rest of their days.
Hugs to you Zig. | | | |

| Zig, my heart goes out to you in this very difficult time. I am crying tears for you and your precious babies. You have a very big heart, and you showed it by rescuing these precious babies that others would have ignored. You gave a warm and loving home for these babies, something they did not have before they met you.
It is horribly painful and heartbreaking to know that you will not be there with them for all of their wonderful lives. Please know in your heart that because of you, these beautiful kitties have gotten that opportunity to have a wonderful, loving, well-fed life, because of your big heart and all the love that you share.

| | Zig, my heat goes out to you. You have tried so hard to find homes for your beloved kitties. I hope you can find comfort in knowing they were happy & loved in your home. The Tampa Humane Society is a "no kill" shelter - perhaps the Jacksonville one is also?

| | Oh Zig....I am so sorry....I wish I had been able to take them for you....it is something that you had to do, and one of the most painful things in the lives of our loving babies....I have had to do it, so I know your pain. Your babies are special, and I will keep the prayers going that someone will recognize that in them.
Hugs,

| Ziggy, I am so sorry to hear this You never know though, there are people out there that would rather have an older cat that is completely house broken. | | | |
