On behalf of karentibbies...
Bartholemew Thibodeaux November 1993 to September 12, 2007 2:00p.m.
Bartholemew, aka, Bart T, Bartie, Doody, Cheesehead, BallBoy, Bart the fart, Love Boy, Kissy Boy, and whatever names he could be called, came to me after Christmas in 1993. He was only about 6 weeks old when someone who received a very loud, howling puppy for Christmas, decided he didn’t want to hear that noise and dumped him at the Houston SPCA. Lucky for me, my daughter had been an employee/volunteer for them, and had me ‘foster’ him. He howled like a beagle (which they said he was – NOT), and perfectly timed those howls with large poops out his cage door. Grabbing the handle to open the door was usually a tricky thing to do ( or doo doo). He was extremely intelligent and learned that the howl would always bring someone to his cage! When the time came for me to ‘give him up’ back to the SPCA, I knew they had pulled a fast one on me – cause they weren’t getting him back! NO WAY! He was MY BOY! I knew when I had to take him back to get neutered, that night was the worst night of my life – not hearing him howl. I never let him out of my sight after that… until today. Bart was extremely terrified of storms. One day, when I was working an office job, we had a bad storm. When I came home, nobody was there to greet me. Sasha, his sister, was under the living room table. Bart was stuck between the toilet and the wall! He must have been like that all day, since the storm was early in the morning! After that, we had to sometimes give him Valium to calm him down – although that really didn’t do that much good either. He would crawl up in my lap…..an 85 pound lapdog is hard to hold sometime. Bart loved the ball. Any ball, any size, he would play until I finally would have to stop! He could jump 6 feet in the air to catch them – and he never missed. He didn’t like to run after them, he just liked them to be bounced high so he could catch them – he would have made a great movie star baseball playing dog! When he first came to us, he had the longest ears – and I thought he would never grow into them. But, he did. He also loved to eat Poop….thus the name “Doody”. Our doody eating puppy. Oh, I would just scream. Sasha (about 4 years old at the time) well, she would just laugh. He loved to tug on her neck, bite her, and also loved to go to sleep on her side. She was such a loving girl, that she would let him. When she went to doggie heaven, he took care of me for the next 5 years alone. So, at the age of 12, a new found littly puppy made his way into our hearts, and Homer helped Bart’s eyes shine. Homer did to him what he used to do to Sasha, bite at his neck, and chase him around! Homer also liked to nip his heels (being a sheltie)! But, old Bart couldn’t take much of that as his old legs were starting to give out on him. I will say I truly believe that Homer helped to keep Bart alive all this past 2 years. Today, he went to visit his Sasha girl in the garden of Dog Heaven, shy of his 14th birthday by a few months. A companion unlike any I have ever known, I will miss him. My heart is full of joy knowing I was so lucky to have him all these years, yet so sad that I had to let him go. At least, this time I was able to look him in the eyes and say goodbye. I will remember he still had a sparkle in his beautiful black eyes. My little doody. In lieu of flowers ( LOL) please donate to the Houston SPCA or Houston Humane Society in his memory.
