A worker at the Genesee County animal shelter in Michigan misread the tag on Juniors cage, who was being held in quaratine because he escaped and bit someone.  Because the worker misread the tag Junior a black lab was euthanized.

What did the shelter do when you brought this to their attention?

I know that some shelters will euthanize a dog that has bitten someone in order to perform rabies testing. Is it possible that this was not a mistake on the part of the shelter, but done for the purpose of running the test?

This was a newspaper article I read.  The media found out from the owners of Junior, I think.  The dog was put in quaratine to see if it had rabies not to be put down.  When the owner first called to find out about her dog the shelter told her they couldn't find her dog.  Then they told her that they never picked up her dog.  She told them there was a police report, they finally confessed to what had happened.  You should be able to go to whiotv.com/news and see the video.

I love your shelter! I just adopted a dog from there. the 9yo Pug male. I'm the one that traveled up there from Toledo Ohio about a week ago to pick him up after i found him on Petfinder the same day he was listed :)

And he's doing great!
