Anybody want to share their story of when you got your first dog ?  Share your story including how old you were , type of dog , circustances surrounding getting your dog ..ect ect ~~  I'll start ~

My Aunt was still living with my grandparents when one day she brought home a german shepherd puppy.  My grandparents didn't like big dogs .. they were use to cocker spaniels ect ect .  Well  .. this new puppy caused a big  drama in the family lolol  My aunt came to stay with us ( I was just 7 years old at the time )  and after about a week or so  she went back home but the puppy stayed    We named her Gretchen ... and she was a real beauty of a dog . I grew up with her  from age 7  til I was 21  ... What great memories  I have  of her . She was the one that started my life long interest in german shepherds ~~

Anyone else care to share their story of  their first dog ?

Awww, the memories

My first dog was a long haired black Lab named Charky... and he was so lovey & sweet to me & my siblings, but really really evil to just about everyone else...the neighborhood kids were SO scared of him... he could act really vicious but wasn't at all (I swear!) ... ok, once he pulled a neighbor girl off her bike... ... I had him from the age of 4 (me) until  about 16.

We always had pets- cats, dogs -my poor Dad was allergic to both!  But my mother was a sucker for a stray...At least I'm only allergic to dogs!

Great thread Prince ... ..

My mom bought a springer spaniel puppy named Pepper a few months before I was born.(My first word WASN'T ' Mommy' or 'Daddy'- it was 'Pepper', according to my mom!) He was a great dog, but took off a lot- we went around the neighborhood looking for him with boxes of Milk Bones, and he always came back. He lived until both he and I were 13.

Well, I have had dogs my whole life. Our first dog was a siberian husky named Sheba. When we got her, she was pregnant, and I was about 3 or 4. She had complications and the vet had to deliver them surgically. Because of her incision, and stitches, the puppies were supposed to be kept away for a while and be bottle fed. We took them all home, and Sheba was an outside dog (something I don't personally do now), and she stood outside all night in the rain crying for her puppies. Well, the next morning, my mom couldn't take it anymore, and brought Sheba inside, and covered her incision with a towel, and supervised the feedings. Sheba did wonderful, and never complained once while the babies fed. She recovered fully, and both she and the puppies were very healthy. Not only was this my first dog, but it was my first really vidid memory as a child. It's something I will never forget.

My first dog was a Border Collie mix and i was able 4. Actually we had a GSD pup but only for a few days, Guess I wasn't very nice to it and they returned it to the breeder. The Border Collie's name was Bullet from tv shows. Unfortunately back then the dog only came in when it was very cold and snowy. I was 16 when she finally passed and i remember how heartbroken i was. I swore my future dogs would always be house dogs and they have been and bring such joy. Thanks for asking everyone and sharing your story, Bill. BEt you cant; wait, huh?

My first dog arrived about 12 months before I did! Her name was Corgi (she was part Sheltie, part Corgi) and I think my mom and dad were using her as a "test baby!"

She was such a sweet girl and lived with us until she was 16. She would split her nights sleeping first on my and then my sister's bed so we wouldn't get jealous of each other.

I remember my dad telling the story of when Corgi was a puppy and they took a trip out to the country. When they stopped the car at their destination, Corgi jumped out and started herding the sheep in a nearby field. Talk about instinct!

Funnily, my parents haven't ever gotten another dog in the 20+ years since Corgi crossed the Rainbow Bridge. I think she was too special replace.

My first dog was our family dog, Barkley. We got him when I was in first grade and he passed away when I was a senior in high school (he was 12yrs old). We had to drive nearly 2 hrs to see the litter...it was an "oops" litter. Mom was a champion golden retriever and dad was a predominantly black lab mix who very determinedly dug under the 6ft privacy fence for true love, haha! I picked him out as my favorite puppy and he rode the 2 hours back home on my lap. He grew to a 90lb black retriever with a big white spot on his chest. I fell asleep on the floor with him while watching the Cosby show or Muppets with my family, and as a teenager he helped me sneak out of the house more than I'll ever admit to my parents = ). He was a best friend and was sorely missed when he passed away.
