People who believe in an afterlife want one for pets By Denise Flaim Tribune Newspapers: Newsday Published January 10, 2007 If you think the Rainbow Bridge is an architectural structure near Niagara Falls, you're probably not an animal lover. A consummate tearjerker that is in perennial circulation on the Internet, the Rainbow Bridge story describes a place "just this side of heaven," where animals go when they die. In a pastoral scene wherein the pit bull lies down with the Maine coon, they are returned to youth and wholeness, and want for nothing. Well, maybe just one thing. To read the entire article (before it goes to archive): http://www.chicagotribune.com/entertainment/chi-0701090337jan10,1,5952142.story?ctrack=1&cset=true My opinion is yes they have souls, and feelings, and I know one day I will see Spunky, Nibbles, Stinky, Doc, Studly and any other current and future 4-leggers on the Bridge.

Anyone who thinks dogs don't have souls probably doesn't have one himself. Remember the episode of "The Twilight Zone" where a hunter and his dog fall in the water, and they wander down the path, eventually finding out they have died? They meet a man who implies that they are at the entrance to heaven, and he offers to hold the dog while the hunter man goes in, because dogs aren't allowed. The hunter refuses to go in without his dog, so he keeps going down the path where they find another gate, and the man there tells him he can enter with his dog. "It would be a hell of a place with no dogs allowed," says the hunter, and the man tells him, "Mister, you ain't far off!" If I ever find myself in an afterlife without Clyde, George, Barney, Fred, Audrey, Max, and Cisco, I'll know it's going to get really warm soon.... Mark

I have no doubt that animals have souls. Heaven would not be the place I imagine if my pets are not there waiting.

Pedigree,Chickie and Mark:(and others) Hello, I'm plranimaniac(newbie) and I am a Christian who studies the Bible in the Original Languages as taught by my pastor. If you will look in the New Testament of the Bible in the Book of 1st Corinthians chapter 15 verses 50 and on The Apostle Paul teaches that People and animals BOTH have a soul. One of the similarities is that we are born,we live, and we die. In Isaiah(old Testament) in the famous verses(I cannot think of the chapter and verse at the moment but it IS in there) where it describes Heaven as being where the "Lion will lay down with the Lamb the child will be playing with vipers",etc. That means because when we all die(both Man and Animals including Marine life)we already have our spirits/souls inside of our Physical Bodies(they are our Personalities and Selves) so when we die the only part of us that truly dies is our Physical body(and the Physical body in a carnivores or omnivores case eats meat!) NOT our spirit or souls. Your soul is contained inside your spirit(your spiritual Body that is)If you will check out the Book of Ecclesiastes (old testament-after the books of Psalm and Proverbs) in the Bible and read chapter 12 verse 7 it mentions that"when the silver cord parts"(that means at the moment of Death out spiritual body separates from our dying physical body) and goes straight to Heaven to await the Judgement. This also means that our spirits live on. Well, Animals who have souls and spiritual bodies as well do the same thing! So when our animals die we Know for a fact that they go instantly to Heaven and are awaiting the Final Judgement being cared for by God and HIS Angels! If you look in the First Book(Genesis) you will find that FATHER created Animals first and also in the Garden of Eden THEY didn't make a Mistake! FATHER(GOD) Loves HIS Animals more than He gave us the capacity to Love anything(I am not saying we don't Love Lavishly we all do but multiply that by infinity and you can see what I am talking about!) He created Their souls too! He is their closest relative beyond their physical parents! He will also hold accountable those who harm HIS Creatures(like We would with our Pets!)My pastor Teaches this and showed us the evidence of it in the Bible. I hope that this will help you.

Well I for one would be really sad to think that our babies had no souls or feelings!! Souls and feelings are a part of every living creature. I know that Rambo was there to meet "Grandpa" and is now his constant companion and protector.

Hey, plranimaniac...that was a pretty long way to go to say, "Yes, they do." I don't think you'll find anyone on this site who disagrees. Mark

Assuming that we humans have souls (we wont truly know until we die), then so do other animals. Until then, all this talk is speculation. But I do hope to see all my past and present "kids" on the other side.

I truly believe that our pets have souls. How could something that loves so unconditionally NOT have a soul??? I plan on seeing all my babies on the other side. Have to admit though, I wonder sometimes if some humans have them. Especially the ones that mistreat and abuse their pets. :)

Hey Mark and all: Thanks for the replies(Yes Mark, I know I went the "Scenic Route") I just wanted to let someone know, who isn't familiar with the concept like it seems you guys are, that there is concrete irrefutable evidence(we all love that!) that animals have souls! I won't usually type that much,(heck I don't have that much time!) Just wanted to encourage and possible give someone in the future who may need that some measure of comfort! Have fun this weekend guys! plranimaniac!

yes they go to Heaven. many spirits of humans who have come back to contact living humans have mentioned being with their pets in Heaven. they were not even asked about their pets but the topic came up on it's own. i don't know how people can be so narrow minded to believe that animals don't go to Heaven. but these people are also the type who tend to believe the world is flat. maiden japan

Do pet have Souls:Defining Body, Soul and Spirit:Body: A body is a mortal earthly physical being. It is made of flesh, bones, blood, tec., and is distinct from the soul and spirit.Soul: The soul means "being". The soul is the living being of an animal or person. the soul can be part of, or apart from the physical body.....Genesis 7:21-22: "All flesh died that moved upon the earth, both of fowl, and of cattle, and of beasts, and of every creeping thing, and every man, all in whose nostrils was the breath of life". The soul perceives, thinks, feels and makes decisions and choices. Animals forgive and are at peace with the world. Animals such as dogs, dolphins and baboons, also have the ability to make decisions.Spirit: The word spirit means "wind, breath - the living power of God's will at work". the spirit is the esence and will of God given to all animals and humans. Got put HIS spirit within all animals. The Spirits of animals and the elect angels have never been separated from GOD. As recorded in the Book of Numbers, animals can recognize spirit-beings and their spirits are tuned into the wisdom of God.Spiritual Beings are Animals Here are a few good books to help anyone out. What a wonderful question to raise on a forum. I'm a "plranimaniac" too--wow, I think I'll stick with "newbie", but wanted to add an email forward I got recently to this. And yes, I believe that if any of us has souls, our faithful companions do and who knows, maybe they are our guides. >> A man and his dog were walking along a road. The man was enjoying the scenery, when it suddenly occurred to him that he was dead. He remembered dying, and that the dog walking beside him had been dead for years. He wondered where the road was leading them. After a while, they came to a high, white stone wall along one side of the road. It looked like fine marble. At the top of a long hill, it was broken by a tall arch that glowed in the sunlight. When he was standing before it he saw a magnificent gate in the arch that looked like mother-of-pearl, and the street that led to the gate looked like pure gold. He and the dog walked toward the gate, and as he got closer, he saw a man at a desk to one side. When he was close enough, he called out, "Excuse me, where are we?" "This is Heaven, sir," the man answered. "Wow! Would you happen to have some water?" the man asked. "Of course sir. Come right in, and I'll have some ice water brought right up." The man gestured, and the gate began to open. "Can my friend," gesturing toward his dog, "come in, too?" the traveler asked. "I'm sorry sir, but we don't accept pets." The man thought a moment and then turned back toward the road and continued the way he had been going with his dog. After another long walk, and at the top of another long hill, he came to a dirt road leading through a farm gate that looked as if it had never been closed. There was no fence. As he approached the gate, he saw a man inside, leaning against a tree and reading a book. "Excuse me!" he called to the man. "Do you have any water?" "Yeah, sure, there's a pump over there, come on in." "How about my friend here?" the traveler gestured to the dog. "There should be a bowl by the pump." They went through the gate, and sure enough, there was an old-fashioned hand pump with a bowl beside it. The traveler filled the water bowl and took a long drink himself, then he gave some to the dog. When they were full, he and the dog walked back toward the man who was standing by the tree. "What do you call this place?" the traveler asked. "This is Heaven," he answered. "Well, that's confusing," the traveler said. "The man down the road said that was Heaven, too." "Oh, you mean the place with the gold street and pearly gates? Nope. That's hell." Doesn't it make you mad for them to use your name like that?" "No, we're just happy that they screen out the folks who would leave their best friends behind."

The Bible Without the shadow of a doubt, the Bible recognizes that ANIMALS having Living Souls the same as Man!!! Most of the quotations given are represented as having been spoken by the Creator Himself, and He certainly knows whether or not HE gave to man and the animals alike a Living Soul, which of course means an Immortal Soul. Animals have Spiritual knowledge and can communicate in ways man cannot comprehend. Through scripture we know that GOD communicates with ANIMALS and in many cases uses them to communicate with us. We have heard many accounts of people who have died and returned, saw Jesus. Many of them also saw ANIMALS and some in fact, saw their own pets in heaven. So ANIMALS can reason and recognize spirit entities. They experience fear and joy, and respond to the loss of people and other ANIMALS. Sometimes things occur in completely unexplained ways that man has been unable, through the natural world, to understand

This is a wonderful, well informed answer! Thank you! I have always felt that animals have souls, but its really awesome to know that this belief is supported by The Scriptures.

I strongly believe that all animals have souls. Why do humans are so arrogant and think we are the only ones with a soul? From what I've seen, read and heard about humans, it's no doubt in my mind that humans are the worst thing that could ever happened to earth, Mother Nature. We are the only creatures that hurt and destroy everything. Therefore, it makes us not compassionate and without a soul.
