Do you do this on your own or for a rescue?

I do a little bit of rescue. My 3 cats are all rescued from someplace or another, I also trapped, neutered & spade over 13 cats in my neighborhood. All the kittens I trapped, I placed in homes. I currently take care of 3 'outside' cats, that is all that is left. Those 3 are fixed.

Hi. I have my own rescue....It's very small and simple. I have placed several cats, kittens and dogs. I do thorough screening of adoptive homes, and some might think I'm too "picky". But I want these rescued babies to go to their PERFECT FOREVER homes. So, it's a tough process and I'm winding down (but not "quitting") until I get these last 2 foster cats of mine placed. They've been with me a while. I am listed on Petfinder. Here's the site: http://www.petfinder.org/shelters/CT275.html

I volunteer with a rescue group, thru our local shelter. So far I have fostered 2 animals and managed to keep them both!! One is a dog the other is a cat!! I love doing rescue work!! It is a beautiful experience. I have always done rescue work, when I was younger, I would find dogs in the city and bring them to shelters in the countries. I knew they would have a better chance of being adopted by their forever families!! Now I just do my best to unconditionally love all of the dogs that come into the shelter. We help the dogs trust and love people again, so many of them have been abused it's hard to get them to trust us sometimes but we never give up on any of them. Even the ones that are going to be putdown for medical or behavioral reasons, still get their love until they go out the door.

I volunteer with weimaraner and pit bull rescue and I love it. I am on the adoption team for pit rescue so I get to interview potential homes and do homechecks etc...it's somewhat frustrating b/c there are more people trying to get pits for bad reasons than good ones. But for every wonderful home we find it's totally worth it!

adoptapittie I volunteer at my local shelter here in northern New Jersey. They have a sweet, small, very lively, young (about 1 yr) male pit bull that needs a new home. No history on him before shelter. He will be neutered in a few weeks. Do you happen to know of any pit rescues in/near northern NJ? The one I know of is always full. Bigbowwow

Bigbowwow- I don't know of any pit rescues there - we get lots of requests from people in NJ for pits. I would suggest using PBRC - Pit Bull Rescue Central. It's a virtual web shelter where you can post for pits that need adoption. Lots of the folks who contact us get the info on our dogs from PBRC so it's a fairly popular site and you might have some luck finding a good home. Also if I see any apps come through from NJ I'll let you know. Pittie

I volunteer foster for the Humane Society in Montgomery County, MD and I have placed 2 cats and am activly looking for homes for other animals. I love doing it because it gives the animals that are "last chance" a place to call home (My house) for a while where they get so much love and attention instead of being locked in a cage and they get to find a forever family where it would have been death for them had I not fostered them. I HIGHLY recommend if you have some space and some extra love that you call your local humane society and volunteer. It costs you nothing-the HS pays for the vet bills and gives you food etc. if you can not afford to buy it. Please open your heart and home to last chance animals they will LOVE you for it!!

Ooh I love Pits they are my favorite. It's so good to see people like you out there trying to stop all the fighting nonsense & find these babies great homes. Is there a website you can go to to see the Pitbulls?

I am currently working with 2 pet organizations in WY on helping them fundraise. Our teams goal is to help pet originations create a consistent monthly income. We are currently putting together a list of organizations across the country who would be interested in learning more about the fundraiser. The information and support would be via conference calls, and online support. This information would free of charge.

Seph - There are lots of cool pittie sites out there. Ours is mprgroup.net There is also pit bull forum.com - this site has all kinds of discussion groups going about the breed and they DO NOT support fighting or abuse of the breed (although technically "pit bull" is not a breed) Another neat group is BadRap - I can't remember their addy off the top of my head though. THANK YOU for being a supporter of these wonderful dogs- they need all the help they can get :)

I think its great that there is other people to help support the pitbull.I have had mariah for 13 yrs. and she is the best dog I have ever had.Its to bad that only the bad things that happen with these dogs get reported. And its usualy the owners falt because of the way they rais them.

I rescued an American Staffy mix- I prefer not to mention the word "pitbull" for fear people will run the other way: these dogs get discriminated against at the very mention of the word. So far, people will see how friendly and loving he is and think he's a completely different type of dog, but it's obvious from his muscular physique that he's bully breed. In addition, the place I rescued him from had his mother, who was dying from lack of nutrition, and I do think she was a pittie mix. I wanted to ask you if you feel it's important to wait until he's over a year old before I bring another animal in. Once you adopt/rescue one of these dogs, there are so many opinions coming from every direction you just have to appreciate the comments and do your own research. Research combined with common sense and paying attention to the individual personality and temperament of a particular animal is important. I'm not planning on rescuing another bully-male, since mine is a male, but another canine female for him to play with would be nice down the road. We met two little girl pitties today and he realized he is definitely a male (if you know what I mean!) Time to probably get him fixed, but atleast he has been able to experience life a little. Thanks for your input. Take care, Lm in CA
