There are 2 dogs that live close to me (but not sure where) that are a total menace. First they tryed to handstring me while walking around the parking lot, by my self one night. I made a report to my local human society, but sense they didn't actually bite me they wouldnt do any thing! Last night I saw them go after a guy and his dog. So this morning I warned my boyfriend that they were out there befor he walked the dog. He talked to one of the neighbors to warn her. She said she had seen them tear apart a cat last week. So we called the humian society agian. Still sence they hadn't goten any reports of them acually biting some one they wouln't do anything. This is maddening. SO what, they have to cross thier fingers and hope that the person that the dogs do take down can fend for them selfs and is not a kid or the palsy guy that lives 6 doors down? And as long as they get biten THEN they will pick up the dogs and fine the owners. In the mean time I can't walk around the front of my townhome for fear of geting malled and killed by 2 dogs. Or walk my dog with out carrying mace.

In short is there any thing I can do to get these dogs picked up and the law behind it to tell the owners they cant roam free?

His dog was about the same size as these dogs so it fought back and the guy kicked at them. They just left him alone after that.

so, the dogs did aggress? I (boyfriend) go upto the owners and tell them, if your dog attacks me again, it'll be the last time he does so. If you dont want to do that, then call the cops and tell them theres a dangerous dog loose. dogs are not supposed to be loose, aggressive or not.

Sabrina, if the humane society can't/won't do anything, can you talk to someone in the police department and see if they have any suggestions? I know laws are different across the country, but when my neighbors' dogs escaped their yard and chased a neighbor into their house, animal control officers visited them and let me know that they talked to them.

Do you have an animal warden where you live? I know many people have reservations about calling the warden because chances for the dogs survival are more limited, but in this situation I'd certainly be making that phone call. Other animals and people are at risk because of an irresponsible owner and I wouldn't want anyone else (or their pets) getting hurt. I know your fear all too well...my dogs were attacked by a roaming dog about 3 years ago & my oldest dog sustained some pretty bad wounds. I called the warden and when they picked up the dogs, they found that they were kept outside in horrible conditions and fought on a regular basis. They also found a lot of drug paraphenalia so the owners were put in jail and evicted from their house. The dogs were euthanized but I'm sure they're happier now that they're not living in wet, muddy conditions with no shelter, in pain from being fought, and not knowing when their next meal will come.

I walk my dog every morning and evening and never walk without my can of mace. I don't walk in fear anymore.

Good luck
Melissa

Well lots has happened in the last hour. I found where the dogs live. By the sound of them torturing and killing a puppy. The ower surendered one dog and I told him that they tryed to attack me. But he was totlly insitant that they were sweet to all humans so what could I say? The owner told me that he was giving the dog up becouse this is the 2nd puppy that his wife had brought home that they have killed..... So now with one dog gone will she get another thinking it might be safe?
I am sure you have all the same questions i do. But i dont have any answers.
The cops wont do any thing relating to animals so where should I have turned?

Where do you live? Most areas have leash laws and aggressive dog restrictions...maybe a little research into that? If these dogs have killed already and are aggressive to people and pets (whether the owners chose to admit it or not) then at the very least someone of authority should be knocking on their door to let them know they need to confine the animals.

I had a simular problem and found that if you call your local police department that they have to take action wether the dogs have bitten someone or not if that doesn't work then contact your local tv news station like where I am at we have channel 47 on your side and bring it to the publics attention that problem dogs are not being removed and are a high risk for hurting someone as well as killing local pets . Also if you have access to a video camera video tape their activity and menaceing behaviour and document the dates and times you have lodged complaints so should someone get hurt or worse you can take legal action against the animal control center that refused to do anything about it . Good luck and I hope I was a help .

Suggest contacting your local mayor's office if the police won't get involved. Be persistent with the police or animal control and state you want to file a complaint, which should trigger a response. The person you described seems to be a terrible owner and should not be getting more animals. The news crew is also a good suggestion.
