I thought I would start a thread about possible great books that you have enjoyed and would like to share with others...

I am actually reading an animal book right now called, "walking in circles before lying down" by merrill markoe. (fiction)

It's about a woman who all of a sudden can hear her dogs thoughts and other dogs around her. They give her sensible life lessons...

I will let you know how the book is when I am done...it's a little slow start but I bet I will get into when I get past the first chapter.

What are you reading?

That sounds like a good book KC.  Let me know how it goes, when I have time I will try and read it.  Been too busy reading up on Human resource info, but when I had time I got through reading the complete works of Jane Austen.  As you can guess she's my favorite author .

I love Jane Austen!

I went to the bookstore today and bought some more books. It helps out on those sleepless nights when I am in pain with my shoulder. I need some drugs and the doctor won't give me any...dang sadist. I think I need to find a doctor that DOES prescribe drugs...

Right now, I'm reading the Stephanie Plum series by Janet Evanovich. They're light mysteries--little thinking required.

Other suggestions:

Donbas (the true story of a man who escapes a workcamp in WWII)

Last Chance to See (One of the Monty Python guys--can't remember who--travels to see some of the endangered species)

1906 (fictional account of the San Francisco earthquake)

My sister loves books by Janet Evanovich, Audie, so she is definately on my list.

I just finished reading "The Wild Parrots of Telegraph Hill" by Mark Bittner, and also watched the DVD. I'm on a San Francisco kick (have never been, but would love to visit someday)...before that I read "Michael Tolliver Lives" by Armistead Maupin.

Okay...I have a couple.

1) From Baghdad, With Love -- some have heard me talk about this book; about an Army unit that finds a pup in Iraq and keeps it as a mascot even though that's against regulations. Powerful and moving account of how one little fluffball kept these soldiers sane in the midst of madness.

2) Currently reading The Other Boleyn Sister by Phillippa Gregory -- about the two Boleyn sisters at the court of Henry VIII. Interesting so far.

 Aud,

I too love pretty much anything by Janet Evanovich- with the Plum series, I would find my self reading and then  bust out loud laughing (with an accompanying snort occaisonally )

I'm currently reading  "Rescuing Sprite"  by Mark Levin ... it's a  and a  about a rescued dog ...(what else, right? )

and "Making the Cut" by Jillian Michaels ... for my own benefit (I hope the pain is worth it)

Here are some more authors for easy Chick-Lit fun reads:

Sophie Kinsella, she wrote all the Shopaholics books:

Confessions of a Shopaholic

Shopaholic Takes Manhattan

Shopaholic & Sister

Shopaholic Ties the Knot

Shopaholic & Baby

* BTW, this is a movie that Isla Fischer is starring in and making in NYC right now. Should be coming out next year. So read the book before you see the movie!

and these books:

The Undomestic Goddess

Can You Keep a Secret?

Sophie Kinsella was a pseudo name and the real author's name, Madeleine Wickham, who wrote these books too:

Cocktails for Three

The Gatecrasher

I just read in a magazine that she wrote a new book, called "Remember Me?" that is coming out in March 2008. Yea!!! Can't wait.

Thanks, KC. I will take a second look at Sophie Kinsella's work. I was given 3 or 4 of her books and sent them off to my sister without opening them. I might not have known what I was missing!

I love Jane Austen!

I love Jane Austen too :)

Very witty writer, and surprisingly easy to read. Pride and Prejudice is a fave.

Currently reading Atonement. Have refused to see the film until I finish reading the book

I just finished reading Merle's Door by Ted Kerasote.  Good book about a single man in Wyoming, and the life lessons he learns from a free-thinking dog.

Being just a tad horse-crazy, I love anything (and have everything) written by Dick Francis. I also like James Herriott, C.W. Anderson, and Margaret Henry. I also love Patricia Cornwell, James Patterson and Nicholas Sparks. And I must confess to reading a great many Harlequin and other romance novels. I have started to write my own romance novel. I would like to do a spoof romance novel someday about Harold and Gertrude who meet at a McDonald's drive-thru. Kim

They are making that movie in Miami, starring Owen Wilson as the dog owner and Jennifer Anniston. Should be a GREAT movie.

I just got through reading " Cormack". It was pretty good. It's about a Golden Retriever that gets lost from it's owner, and how the owner get's the dog back. It was quite an ordeal. It really happened.

Awhile back i read a book (I think ) called "The pig that sang) It was really good. It was about animals and how the relate to other animals of their species or other species of animals and humans. If you read this you will think a lot about being a person that eats meat. If you are a meat eater it will make you think you might not want to become a vegetarian. A lot is written about the animals found on farms, raised for food.

I read quite a bit. I'm currently reading the Amelia Peabody series by Elizabeth Peters. Being a history buff, and a fan of Egyptian history, I really like this series. I'm also a fan of Kathy Reichs. A co-worker is a fan of Janet Evanovich, and she has recommended them to me. I'll probably check them out at some point. I also enjoy the CSI novels :) There are others I also like, but that's what comes to mind first. In addition to mysteries, I also like scifi/fantasy. I've also written some stuff myself, and self-published one fantasy novel.
