Hello cat lovers,

My cat Kitty is very sweet but I guess still has the killing instinct. She kills a chipmunk almost every day and brings it in front of my apartment's door. Most times she would eat the head and leave the body intact.

I asked my vet for an advice as I like the chipmunks and don't want them killed. The vet suggested putting a bell around Kitty's neck, so that chipmunks can hear her coming. I put a bell and two metal tags to make noise - it didn't help!

Can someone give me some advice?

Thank you much!

As long as Kitty goes outside, there's not much you can do. Kitty is doing what comes naturally. Since we live in the city, I trained my cat to wear a harness. I attach it to a light weight rope and he has figured out how to follow the rope back from where he came, so he does not get tangled up in the bushes. It took about a week of training to get him used to wearing it. Now, when he sees the harness, he get all excited and can't wait to put it on. There are books that will help you through the process. It's not an easy fix, but it might work for you. Hope this helps.

Thanks for your suggestion Luckyandlibby!

Per the advice of some other cat loversI bought a cat bib and I'll let you know if it worked. If you're interested, you can look at it on www.catgoods.com.

Thanks again!

Happy Friday!

By any chance was your cat a stray before you officially became her owner? Thats what my Maine Coon did when she started coming around my house. She was a drop off and would always go to the farm across the street and bring back little mouse heads and leave them at our back door to "earn her keep". We took her in shortly after that and she has remained a strictly indoor cat. I would try to keep your cat inside if you can.
Good luck to both you and the little chipmunks-they are so sweet :)
