I'm happy to see the numbers of adoptions included  for this weeks poll question. If you haven't participated yet, please tell us where you got your pet. Not sure how to vote, since i have 2 adoptions and one from a breeder!

I must wonder though, of the people that got their pets from breeders, how many actually went to see the operation and how many had their pet shipped to them!

The term breeder unfortunately must be used loosely!

2 of our pets came from shelters and 2 came from homes that couldn't keep them anymore.

I went to see my breeder a few times, to meet her, visit the location, and to see all her Newfs before the 2 I have now were ever born. My breeder has a waiting list usually up to 2 years in advance for her pups....neither one of my dogs were "shipped" to me, I went and picked them up....

All of my dogs have been rescues except for my rottie, Othello. As a first time rottie owner I decided to go visit a few breeders and see their animals before purchasing a pup. I can't imagine shipping a dog from a breeder without meeting them, their dogs, and seeing their facility first.

Hey Frank,

Same problem here- "dog" boys rescued-

cheetoh from a breeder...

and honestly, I think the breeder could have done more research on ME before the "sale" or adoption process... but I was assured by the founder of the Cheetoh breeding program she was one of her best breeders when I had a concern about Sampson's size as an 8 week year old- especially for a cat that typically grows to be 25-30 lbs for a male... good news is he's a happy little (?) monster at 2 1/2 years....6 more months to grow is what they say....

I think I need a none of the above button for some of my cats as they were strays living in my storm drain!

I knew sire and dam, and grandpa, and several aunts, uncles, cousins, and half-sibs, as well as the breeder. I saw the litter every week since age 2 weeks, amber ond the breeder and I discussed what I wanted multiple times (it helps that she's also my agility instructor with whom I do private lessons!)

My first 2 dogs came from a local shelter, the third from a rescue group, and the fourth was pulled from the shelter with the intent to take her to the rescue group, but she ended up staying with me. I've had a number of fosters, and am currently trying to work with someone who took a rescue I fostered, but is having trouble and may need to be re-homed if we can't work out some issues.

agilitynut, Brodie, Kyp!, and Arie (and if you're doing the math and wondering, the first two have passed on)
