I had a very special dog. Her name was Sheba and she was a black lab. I adopted her from the local humane society when she was 2 months old.  She loved to go for rides and went everywhere with me, or with my dad. She was so smart I taught her to come at the sound of a pill bottle. She would sitdown at my feet raise her head up and open her mouth for the pill she knew she was getting. Her and I would walk every evening and I never had to put a leash on her for she would walk right beside me. As she got older our walks became shorter and if she got tired she would turn and go home. She was very protective of me and my mother. No matter who'es house sheba and I might be at she would not let a stranger in their door.

But alas she developed a mass in her throat that put pressure on her trachea making it hard for her to breath, as much as I didn't want to I had to let her go. And with my heart breaking, tears flowing freely I hugged her tightly told her good by and put her in the hands of a caring vet.

She was my friend a part of my family and I still miss her 2 yrs latter

Of course you do, she was part of your family and sounds like your best friend.  Obviously the love and trust between the two of you was mutual.  We never forget, the pain may lessen as when we lose a parent but it never ever goes away.  It sounds to me like you two had a most special relationship, treasure that and know how lucky you were and how lucky she was to be loved so much by you(all animals should be so lucky)  I am sorry for your grief......I look forward to seeing all my animals that have  passed at rainbow bridge, I truly believe in the hereafter.  You were a wonderful petmom, she is still with you in spirit........do you ever think you may feel a nudge or smell her smell?  If so, believe......................

I am so sorry for your loss...does not matter how long time passes...you will always feel like you're missing a part of you.

Even after years have passed, I still miss my childhood dogs.

She was a part of me, and as much as I love Cody. Sheba is the one that brings tears to my eyes.

I still miss the first dog I had also. She was a special girl too.
