| Jul 15 Written by:aajoanne Tuesday, July 15, 2008 Thanks to Luvzcats for sharing this with us -- and thanks to our members who are so courageously volunteering!
I know of one site member here (and there may be others) who are assisting sick and dying animals caught in the terrible wildfires in California that are going on right now. I receive emails regularly about how they are dying from the bad air quality there as well as the actual fires. Many of those that are alive must be put to sleep due to their massive injuries. What a heartbreaking situation. I just want to say a huge "Thank You" to any of the wonderful members here who are devoting themselves to the welfare of these poor animals. They are often the forgotten ones and without you they wouldn't have a chance. Send Your Thanks >> Tags:

Re: Members Helping Others
You're absolutely right. It is a horrific situation: a forest fire vs. the little souls that live there. Often burned right where they're hiding. yuck. I don't even want to think about it. Yet it is real, and happening right now. So THANK YOU! to all those who are braver than I. I cower at the thought of what is happening. Those that trudge the burnt and hot ground and pick up the wounded are so emotionally brave. I'm ashamed of my own aversion to seeing and experiencing the casualties. Again, thank you to the volunteers, and may God bless all those involved, especially the victims.

Re: Members Helping Others
I'm ashamed that I live in CA and tho I am aware of the fires and have given some thought to the animals, I thought that we had passed some new laws allowing for the evacation of our pets as well as ourselves. I can't begin to say "thank you" to those who try to do so much for those who can't express their thanks. I can't trudge that ground with you for physical reasons, so I can only pray that you have the strength to carry on.May God bless you as you go about this difficult task.

Re: Members Helping Others
I have been proud to be a Californian for many years, over a year ago I had to move to Arizona to my dismay. It sickens me the horrible tortue these fires cause God's creatures and domestic animals as well. Over the years I have watched the state I love to call home be distroyed by sick people that have no heart for any living being when they start fires just for the thrill of it. If only they could be caught up in "their" fire, what a lesson learned it would be. Now mother nature is striking out at California with the lightening fires, burning down the beautiful northern area. I have to ask why and then I think of all the distruction going on all over our country and what do we have to do to stop it. I know it has to be put in God's hands and with allot of prayer. Thank you all for unwavering bravery and bless you for all you are doing.

Re: Members Helping Others
I'd like to add my thanks to all that are devoting their time, and love and effort to help these poor, innocent creatures. It's always almost too heartbreaking to think about these situations. I have much admiration for those that are helping. They deserve a special place in our thoughts and prayers, as do the unfortunate and innocent creatures.

Re: Members Helping Others
Yes, the law passed last year in California which requires emergency evacuation plans to plan for companion animals seems to be working! As I read about the fires in California, the media often reports that shelter is also provided for pets and other domestic animals - for example, horses and even llamas were housed at the Monterrey County Fairgrounds. On another note, I also read that the Animal Rescue Center in South Lake Tahoe is caring for a little bear they are calling Smokey II.

Re: Members Helping Others
Totally different subject: Science Diet vs Iams dog foods for senior dogs (7+ years). Anyone knowledgeable or experienced in this subject? I have 2 senior shih tzus that are on Science Diet, mostly because my vet recommended it and sells it. However, some coworkers stated that their vet recommends Iams dog food and it is cheaper. I have heard some say that Science Diet has an ingredient in it that is not good if your pet has sensitive skin. One dog does scratch alot (he is treated for ticks and fleas) and the other is 15 and can't always hold her bowels. Maybe it's just age. Can't get in to see my vet until mid-August when we return from vacation, so I'm just asking around about the food. Any opinions will be read and appreciated. Thanks!
