Taking Pets to WorkDan recently commented that he didn't know how he could ever work for someone else - what would he do with Buddy during the day???

At AnimalAttraction we're so fortunate to be able to have our pets with us every day -- and it looks like more and more workers are able to do the same! A new survey indicates that 30% employers now allow their employees to bring pets with them to work.

"(ARA) -  Dogs and cats and fish, oh my!  More than 63 percent of American households own a pet today, which equates to 71.1 million homes and a whopping 382.2 million pets, according to a recent American Pet Products Manufacturers Association survey of pet owners. So are Fluffy and Fido just hanging out at home, or are they going to work with their human companions?

Pets, it seems, are showing up in the workplace more than ever, with 30 percent of employers allowing workers to bring pets to the office, according to a recent consumer survey commissioned by The HON company, a leading designer and manufacturer of office furniture. Of those who actually bring their pets to work, the majority of Americans bring dogs (24 percent), followed by fish (12 percent) and cats (8 percent)."

Re: Pets at Work

I work at an Insurance Agency with 1 other person. Even though it's pretty casual here I know my dod g would be territorial of the office & bark when customers came in or even the mailman. I wish more than anything I could work somewhere I could bring my dog though. I think of her all day long & rush home every day to tend to her. It's tough working full time and having animals. If we didn't there would be soo many more that wouldn't be adopted so it's kind of a catch 22. I just make sure that the time we spend together is fun and memorable.

Re: Pets at Work

I have been working at a Law Office and the long hours have been very hard on my dogs. So, I'm going back to just house cleaning. My housekeeping jobs let me be flexible and I can even go home in between jobs if I'm going to have a long day.

I left my job,to work at home and be with my animal campions. Its a severe pay cut but worth it.The extra time also lets me volunteer in my community.Working with animals near isn't a distraction as my ex-boss thinks.I find that having animals at work increases my energy and brightens my mood.

Re: Pets at Work

I used to work in a hospital for 22 years, and our department was outsourced. Now I work at home transcribing medical reports over the internet and have my beloved dog at my side. I used to rush home to see if she was okay and to let her out of the house when I worked in a hospital, and I used to rush home during lunch also. Sophie was great, she never messed in the house. Now, I would not leave her for anything !!! Being outsourced was the best thing that ever happened to me. I have my girl by my side and you couldn't peel her off of me, just the way I like it !!!

I'm one of the fortunate ones too; I'm a pet sitter! Since I started my pet sitting business after Hurricane Katrina, I actually LOVE what I do for a living!

Re: Pets at Work

I am very fortunate to own my own store and am able to bring my dog or dogs to work. I have actually had customers call and ask if Daisy or Cody is in today so they can pick up the things they ordered.
Daisy loves men & kids and to be pet. Cody--just loves to walk around and is called the "Mayor" by one of the other shop owners in our strip mall.

Re: Pets at Work

My dog is almost 2yrs. and my employer has been great having my dog at work. I work for a major school bus company in the NYC area and I bring my dog to work every day. Freddie has his favorites for his 'walkers' and he adores Florence who brings him 2 large biscuits everyday ! In short, he is spoiled to death but my drivers always leave for their day (dealing with parents and children, not to mention other motorists!) with a big smile on their face !!!!!!!! This makes my day so much easier.

Re: Pets at Work

I have the best job in Arizona. I work for a firm of attorneys that lets me take my Sasha, my miniature schnauzer, to work. She has been on the job since she was six weeks old. She is now four years old. It is a win-win situation for everyone. The clients (for the most part) love her and stop to scratch her ears and talk to her. Sasha is so affectionate all the employees get a "gee-I-haven't-seen-you-in-ages" greeting every morning. That's an upper for them and her. Being at work since she was a puppy has been wonderful for her. She is friendly, socialized, polite and learned early on that the she can't indulge in yapping and barking all the time. We close at noon for lunch and that is her time to raise hell, bark and be rowdy. When not being a PR Rep for the firm, she lies in her bed with her teddy and takes a nap. Are we lucky or what?

Re: Pets at Work

I work retail and there is no way I could ever have them with me. But that is my main concern, my pets being at home for too many hours a day. But it seems my pets have all adjusted to what ever I do. I have the quilt he he
