This is a fantastic idea that I'm surprised no one has come up with before!
St. Vincent's Hospital in New York is launching a program that will allow them to take care of patients' pets while they are undergoing treatment at the hospital. What a thoughtful service that will certainly ease the minds of many!
"NEW YORK - What happens to Fido and Fluffy when their owners are in the hospital?
A new effort under way in New York is designed to make sure that pets are not neglected while their human companions are getting medical care.
The program is being launched by the state Bar Association and St. Vincent's Hospital in Manhattan.
It will let hospital officials download forms that will help them determine whether a patient has pets. If necessary, hospitals will be able to get legal authority to enter a patient's home to care for any pets that might be stranded there. "

Re: Hospital Lends a Paw
That is an excellent idea. I wish I lived close enough to participate in giving care to the pets. I hope it works well and the concept spreads to all other areas.

I agree! A good home is much better than a kennel!

Re: Hospital Lends a Paw
This is a big worry of mine. I live alone and after hearing of people being ordered to the hospital by their doctors for emergency surgery I wonder what would happen if I had to suddenly have emergency surgery. Worse, what if I became unconcious or in a coma and couldn't call anyone to come and get keys to feed my wonderful kitties. I sure hope this idea becomes the norm for every hospital!!!

Oops, of course I don't live alone, I live with my kitties. I meant without another caretaker!

This is a wonderful idea. They could even recruit senior citizens as pet sitters which will be a blessing to all concerned. The Senior Citizens who cannot have a full time pet, will benefit from taking care of these pets.
