One of the things a foster home does for a dog is to expose him/her to lots of new situations, people, things, environments, activities. I had a prospective adopter ask about Pete's response to loud noises, sirens, etc.
Little did I know that later the same day my dogs would be exposed to the sounds of both a turkey call and a peacock call. I'll sleep better tonight knowing they have had that experience. Personally, the peacock call made me want to cover my ears and dive under the bed. It certainly got the dogs attention.
It amazes me one would use a peacock call in the process of hunting wild turkey. However, there is a strategy involved. I think the noise of it forces the turkeys into surrender. Or they keel over from the sheer sound of it.
Either way, the dogs came a running at the sound of it. And I went a running from the sound of it. The jury is still out on how the turkeys will respond.

Re: Exposure
Your story is hilarious! Peacocks sound like a woman screaming, I remember my great aunt & uncle's farm in South Dakota and they had Peacocks. First time I heard them I thought a crime was being committed. What a beautiful dog!!

Re: Exposure
It was shriekingly hilarious. Funny thing is Pete has a prospective adopter in NYC interested in him. What are the odds he'd ever hear another peacock or turkey call again? But I guess as far as general mayhem, we've given him some exposure! That's gotta count for something.
